J Dilla 's legacy lives on today, as we get yet another exciting bit of news by way of Ma Dukes and the Jay Dee estate. Back in 2001, Yancey created PayJay Productions, Inc., a publishing company that would help him earn royalties from music he had released. The production company is now being revived in the hopes of dropping some new music from the late legend. The imprint doesn't stop there, as they also plan on releasing J Dilla's long lost vocal album, The Diary . "Anthem" is the first single off the upcoming album, which will feature "Trucks" [...]

Morfeeus is a newcomer in the Hip Hop scene, but a veteran in the music culture. Former Black Metal artist turned philosophic Hip Hop Producer. There are few mixes that can catch my ears attention, because of all the watered down mixes that exist, but this mixtape is different. You can experience different emotions and most importantly a little contemplation of yourself. Not many mixtapes can do this. This mixtape features a ton of originals, and samples you will know or not. Ranging from movies to female vocalist Grimes. The percussions are on point, the samples are great, and melody [...]

Right after news of NoYork! being re-released on vinyl, some more exciting news from the Blu camp materializes. It looks like the Los Angeles MC has really been hitting it off with Stones Throw recently, specifically MED and Madlib. The indie powerhouse is releasing a new EP from the duo of MED and Blu, The Burgundy , that's almost entirely produced by Madlib. The sole outside producer is Georgia Anne Muldrow. Sounds good, right? We think so. Hopefully we get to hear some of it soon. Pre-order the EP here .

When I saw Ben Jamin named his new track "Fatbacks", I immediately remember the time I tried the Southern "delicacy" of the same name last year. I had only been living in Raleigh, N.C. for a few months and was excited to taste every regional dish I could—to be fair, I had eaten most of them before and fucking love them. But fatback? No fucking way. Hilarious note: the waitress did a double-take when I asked for it and made sure it's what I wanted. But as you might know, "Fatbacks" is also the name of a [...]

Keeping things pushing forward after an already prolific month with the release of MED’s “Candlelight” video & some new GEEMIXES both dropping within the last week alone today the SomeOthaShip camp does it again, this time with two new music videos. First, there’s “Kneecap Jelly,” the second single and video from Georgia Anne Muldrow‘s Seeds album with Madlib a bold stand-out release from the year past. And to go along with it, there’s “Poet” the latest from Declaime‘s 2011 Self Study album, which was of course produced by Georgia as well. [...]

That’s right, That’s Deck and GITNB got together to bring you a mix of everything that was exceptionally good in 2012. We [...]
This past week, we reported that Flying Lotus was working on Thundercat 's sophomore effort, a full-length Captain Murphy album, and a project he said he couldn't talk about just yet. Of course, our minds started wandering as we tried to think of exactly what that mysterious project might be. As a result, we came up with our latest entry in our ongoing Armchair A&R segment, in which we come up with ideas for what we think a certain artist's next album should be. It wasn't easy narrowing down who we think FlyLo [...]
We've already given a round down of our favorite artwork and music videos of 2012, and now we're diving into our choices for the best songs of the past year. To be blunt, we loved a lot of singles in the past 12 months from across the genresphere, though hip-hop and its off-shoots remain the backbone of our selections. For example, Baauer 's "Harlem Shake" most certainly isn't rap music, but the genre's influence breathes through the floor-shaking bass and synthesizers. As such, we didn't want to throw all 100 songs at [...]
