I've spoken of Mr. Gnome several times in the past and this week they release their new record. Madness in Miniature is a moving effort of capturing structures built on flourishes of sound, dynamics, and complimentary atmosphere. The album was recorded at Josh Homme's Pink Duck Studios in Los Angeles with Justin Smith on board (QOTSA, Eagles of Death Metal, Arctic Monkeys, Them Crooked Vultures). To see what it all means listen to "Ate the Sun" along with "Bit [...]

I've long been convinced that Cleveland's mr. Gnome is destined for the big time. Now, admittedly, over the years here at MOKB, I've picked a few bands to click, only to have them clack. Nobody's perfect. That being said, this noisy little duo manages to terrify and tantalize in equal measure with songs that exfoliate your senses without sacrificing tunefulness. Their newest release, Madness In Miniature , might be just the thing to get them over the hump. Lead single Bit Of Tongue proved to be such [...]

There's nothing small about this album.

"I mean, look at me— I’m an actor. An actor, for crying out loud. You know how much rejection I face every day? But in this business of show, you have to have the heart of an angel and the hide... of an elephant." Words of wisdom from the perennial actor / never-nude, Tobias Funke. Yes, not everyone's cut out to be a a DeNiro, or a Regis, or a Pinkett-Smith, but there are a select few actors & actresses that have reached the pantheon of greatness, which is, of course, being memorialized in song. Such [...]

The possibilities of electronic music are as limitless as the imaginations of those creating it. Unique stage productions are quickly becoming just as important as the music and with technology increasing at exponential rates, artists can finally turn their dreams into realities. Daft Punk were the pioneers, paving the way by blending their music and their stage show into true performance art. The massive monolithic pyramid for their Alive 2007 tour inspired countless artists after them to go bigger and better. In recent years, many artists have followed suit. Of course, the most notable would be [...]
One of my favourite UK websites, The Quietus , has just posted a rather excellent podcast by Terry Edwards. You'll have heard me mention Terry before, flexing his Zoot Horn Rollo muscle with Robyn Hitchcock's Captain Beefheart ensemble earlier this year, and the eagle-eyed amongst you will have seen his name credited as sax player alongside the likes of PJ Harvey, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Tindersticks and Faust, or in The Higsons (with funny guy Charlie Higson). Anyway, a while back, Terry wrote a book about Madness's album, One Step Beyond. The podcast [...]

![Toronto Culture Clash – Zulu Nation vs LuckyMe vs Mad Decent vs Toronto All Stars [Stream]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3761459_lg.jpg)
Nobody, literally nobody does events quite like Red Bull Music Academy . Partly due to their enormous budget but also a lot to do with the people they have behind the scenes. I've made it to both Culture Clashes in London and both were insanely good. For their next London event they are taking over the London Eye. Yeh. That enormous wheel by the river. They are doing 30 gigs, one in each pod, streaming all of it live, plus having a silent disco underneath it, where you can choose which pod you [...]

If you're a devout EDM fan, a mediocre one at best, or even an amateur who still calls it "techno" music, look no further than the Swedish House Mafia show at Madison Square Garden on December 16th. Unfortunately, its sold out! Shame on you for even thinking you were worthy enough to see the trio in the flesh in the heart of NYC. The sum up this morning in a few short sentences, it was absolute madness. Yesterday there was a pre-presale for a select few SHM fans. A vast amount of the tickets sold yesterday immediately appeared on Stubhub with GA tickets [...]

In honor of Nevermind's 20th year, we compile a list of of artists and songs that made it happen. In 2001, the independent label Late Night Tales began a series of mix CD's consisting of tracks compiled by notable artists entitled "Another Late Night" which eventually was changed to the name of the label. "Late Night Tales" has had many notable contributors over the years including the Flaming Lips, Belle & Sebastian, Air, and most recently MGMT. Sadly, this series began seven years [...]
