Cults and Magic Kids at Mercury Lounge I've been meaning to see Cults live for ages and finally got the opportunity to last week at the sold out March 31st show at Mercury Lounge with Tennessee's Magic Kids . Unfortunately Magic Kids had to cancel their Brooklyn show the night before at Knitting Factory due to their van breaking down on the road, but the show went on without a hitch last Thursday. Magic Kids live at Mercury Lounge Photos by G. On March 31, 2011, Tennessee based indie-pop band Magic Kids played a sold out show at New York's Mercury Lounge. It was a trifecta of great music as I enjoyed seeing Superhumanoids and Cults prior to Magic Kids taking the stage at 11 pm. Magic Kids had tour van problems the night before and they had to miss their show, but New York lucked out and they were back in action. CULTS PLAYED KNITTING FACTORY WITH SUPERHUMANOIDS While everyone was disappointed that Magic Kids wasn't able to make it out to The Knitting Factory on Wednesday (including Cults who actually dedicated a song to the missing trio), I certainly wouldn't say that anyone in attendance left the show dissappointed. Recommended Thursday Show: Magic Kids and Cults at Mercury Lounge Ah, the infectious opening line, "Hey Boy, where's your girlfriend?" Magic Boys are almost sickeningly adorable, but still have plenty of well-deserved street cred to their names. The Memphis group's 2010 album, Memphis , didn't earn quite as much critical praise as I thought it might have, but for a band that lives in the spaces of sugary melodies, they're still pretty damn good. They're also adorable to watch. Magic Kids cancel Brooklyn show, but Cults still playing Knitting Factory Brooklyn says, "PLEASE NOTE: MAGIC KIDS have cancelled their show tonight due to van problems. Refunds available BEFORE you enter the show, otherwise NO REFUNDS. CULTS and SUPERHUMANOIDS are still playing!"
