Søren Løkke Juul has experienced a whirlwind twelve months, the like of which even his blizzard-swept indigenous Denmark has rarely seen. The Copenhagen native who now masquerades as Indians back then (or earlier on just last year, rather) released a track entitled Magic Kids, and the thing snowballed. New-wave melancholia at its most refined, it was wistful as a frozen lake lonesome but for the company of the impenetrable shadow of night and as it continued to tumble about the innards of the internet, it began to pique the intrigue of some of music's higher rollers. Without a [...]

Here's the fitting black-lit clip for " Newgate ," the bright and effervescent new single from Toxie , a new project from Alexandra Burden and members of Coasting & the Magic Kids . We're not about to call these guys a supergroup because "supergroup" is usually synonymous with "terrible," but this band somehow manages to be even more awesome than the sum of its parts, and this song is undeniably great and will undoubtedly be buzzing around inside your head all day. Directed by Josie Keefe + Alex Iezzi . The [...]

The Barbaras: The Barbaras 2006-2008 — For years there was a lost punk rock treasure hiding in Memphis, waiting to be released for the fans who wished it could. The moment arrived this past October, as the long-awaited full length from the Barbaras was finally revealed. As this new year begins, let’s look back at what the last decade gave us, and has decided (thankfully) to regift. Released by Memphis label Goner Records , the Barbaras 2006-2008 LP almost never met the public. It was originally produced by the late Jay Reatard [...]

Nowadays, in the space of just one year, a musician’s career can have a complete twist; going from recording some demos in the bedroom to doing an extensive tour in Europe or the U.S. can fit in a bustling 365 days period. And that’s what happened to Søren Løkke Juul under his moniker Indians ; he initially started making music in his hometown Copenhagen and played his first concert in February of this year. Not even a year after, he has already toured Europe and the U.S. extensively in support of other bands, such as [...]

I’m not sure how long he’s been around, who he is, or if he has anymore than two songs. As a matter of fact, I’m not even sure if Indians is a “he” or a “they”. All I know is, since I came across this 3-minute song a half hour ago, I’ve listened to it 10 times. Magic Kids is a perfectly dreamy track that builds to a pleasantly chiming climax. “ No, your eyes don’t see anymore / No, [...]

MP3: Indians - Magic kids Check out this track from a guy in Copenhagen named Soren who goes by the Google-unfriendly moniker Indians . It's a bedroom project all recorded by Indians, who will self-release the "Magic Kids" 7-inch to the world in less than a month. Along with Sinkane's funktastic "Runnin,'" this single is one of the most memorable I've heard this year, a song of loss awash in tributaries of synth that gradually become an ocean, then just as gradually drift away. Indians' first show was just [...]
The Rozzes are a very young band with an extra dose of talent and vigor, similar in mold to recent youthful power-pop successes like Cloud Nothings. Similarly, they possess a musical intellect that presents talent well beyond their years. They are a band to watch closely as they develop into stars. Even if comparisons to [...]

There’s something about sweet and innocent music that really hits home at this time of year. Maybe it’s the sound of the beginning of summer. Maybe it’s just me. Anyways, crafting some of this sweet and innocent music is Memphis’ ... Continue reading
Hailing from Copenhagen, Indians ’ ‘Magic Kids’, whilst absorbing the listener with its on-show sadness, comes as a form of comfort at the same time. It’s about as intimate as they come; breathing down your neck. During its short time playing, you feel a wealth of emotions; from deep, bitter regret to near-euphoria. Not bad, in the space of three minutes. Indians - Magic Kids

By Laura McWhorter D.A.O.B - \Doub\ noun. Origin: D(esignated) A(wful) O(pening) B(and). Defined as the band brought on tour to make any band look better by comparison. While Cults may not have deliberately chosen Magic Kids for the above mentioned reason..it’s definitely plausible since one of the big things the twosome had going for them last night was that they were NOT their predecessors. Now, that’s not entirely fair. Let’s rewind a bit. The show got off to...

I've been meaning to see Cults live for ages and finally got the opportunity to last week at the sold out March 31st show at Mercury Lounge with Tennessee's Magic Kids . Unfortunately Magic Kids had to cancel their Brooklyn show the night before at Knitting Factory due to their van breaking down on the road, but the show went on without a hitch last Thursday. Cults and Magic Kids co-headlining bill complemented eachother's sugary feel-good sound without stepping on one another's toes. A fantastic night [...]

Photos by G. On March 31, 2011, Tennessee based indie-pop band Magic Kids played a sold out show at New York's Mercury Lounge. It was a trifecta of great music as I enjoyed seeing Superhumanoids and Cults prior to Magic Kids taking the stage at 11 pm. Magic Kids had tour van problems the night before and they had to miss their show, but New York lucked out and they were back in action. The band has 7 members and they are often described on the net as the "Memphis Beach Boys." [...]

photos by Jessica Amaya Mercury Lounge, March 31, 2011 Cults ' debut full length will be released this spring via It The Name Of / Columbia Records, but you can listen to the first official track off the LP, "You Know What I Mean", now (streaming below). The band played their second NYC show in a row last night, 3/31, at Mercury Lounge with Magic Kids who didn't make it to the show [...]

While everyone was disappointed that Magic Kids wasn’t able to make it out to The Knitting Factory on Wednesday (including Cults who actually dedicated a song to the missing trio), I certainly wouldn’t say that anyone in attendance left the show dissappointed. Superhumanoids stepped up to fill the second slot while Cults ended the night with a dreamy bang. Having seen both bands at SXSW recently, it was pretty amazing to catch them in a more intimate setting. Superhumanoids , as they [...]

photos by Winnie Cheung and Chris La Putt Cults @ Knitting Factory Magic Kids couldn't make it to NY on time , but the show went on with Cults and Superhumanoids at Knitting Factory in Brooklyn last night (3/30). That said, Magic Kids have confirmed that they will make it to their sold out show at Mercury Lounge tonight (3/31) where the same lineup [...]
♫ Indians - Magic Kids I don’t feel like wasting a lot of words on this song. There’s not a lot of information to find on it either. All I know is that Indians is located in Copenhagen, Denmark and that this track has been released digitally via Danish label Speed of Sound one week ago. Can’t wait to hear more! Aside from this video, you can watch another one for “I am hunted”, the only other Indians track so far. Stream “Magic Kids” on soundcloud or listen [...]
