The duo of Chris and Dexy aka Magic Wands have just released their debut EP, Magic Love & Dreams , via Bright Antenna . There's a lot to like about this bunch - light guitars, drum machines, hand claps, organs, dreamy vocals, etc.. My only knock on them was that their live show was fairly 'meh' back when I saw them open for Black Kids and The Virgins. Though that could have easily changed since then. More magic ! Nashville duo Magic Wands dropped their debut EP "Magic Love & Dreams" earlier this month, and it's pretty fantastic stuff. Lead single (granted it's been out for more than a year) Black Magic is a dark, almost spooky, romping pop ditty, a little like a less colorful Ting Tings, reminiscent of Ladyhawke or Bat for Lashes. In a match seemingly made in heaven, the triple-threat tour of The Kills, The Horrors and Magic Wands put a collective knife to the throats of Chicago on Saturday night. Though none of the acts are black metal or worship Satan (that I'm aware of), all three bands do make dark and occasionally scary-sounding songs, similar to what their names describe.
