On the day Atlantis is kicking off, I'm going to clean out my inbox so I can enjoy the rest of my week! Check this stuff out: *** Division Day is back this week with another cover, and it happens to be a cover of one of my favorite songs, "Enjoy the Silence." I've heard plenty of artist butcher the poo out of this song, but I'm giving them the thumbs up approval for this one. Division Day - " Enjoy the Silence " ***Even Johansen (calling himself ' Magnet ' now) has [...]

Magnet keeps listeners guessing with the musical smorgasboard that is his third full length, The Simple Life , out Tuesday via Filter . Magnet is the brainchild of Norwegian-born Even Johansen, who recorded and played nearly every instrument heard on the album. He also produced it himself. What's most impressive is the range of sounds and styles on the album that might otherwise be a trainwreck. She's Gone has a reggae vibe to it, while A Little Happier hits [...]

This is part three in our ongoing series on the subject of childhood. You can find part one by John Gruen here , and part two by Will Hubbard here. Lake Arbutus by Lucas Stangl Summer always brought two things I could count on as a child: swim lessons and Lake Arbutus. My mother's father (Grandpa Ed) was an underwater welder. He had helped construct this dam/canal. My mom's [...]

Arcade Fire , Klaxons oder The National ? Nein! "The Dome" oder Herbert Grönemeyer – den Freund aller Menschen, sofern sie in Afrika leben bzw. sterben. Alle, die heute Abend um 20:00 im Magnet in Berlin [...]

Six, or seven, weeks to go until the music starts at SXSW (March 14th), I won't be there, but I guarantee you that the buzz that'll build in the indie music community will be like a pot of strong coffee to me. Last year SXSW had a massive amount of music and the same will be true this year. You may already know that the festival for the past couple of years has hosted hundreds and hundreds of mp3s of bands that were showcaseds at Austin, although this year's showcase mp3s aren't online yet, last years are still [...]
there is nothing better than starting your saturday morning off right. after a cup of coffee and a nice calm walk around the park or perhaps its one of those peaceful rainy days in bed, a favorite way to spend this special time is watching a 4 episode mini marathon of six feet under . thanks to the bravo network , its possible to catch up on lost seasons and reflect again on all the tiny details that made this show feel so captivating. for those on the unknown, this was simply a special [...]

Yes, these are Christmas songs. I don't think I've mentioned this too often, but I love Christmas. I can get massively cynical about the presents aspect of it, and I don't always look forward to awkward meetings with relatives, but I love it. So anything that adds to that atmosphere, especially music, is okay in my book. Sadly, I haven't gotten into the spirit of it yet. I wish it would snow. But until it does, this is the next best thing: the aural equivalent of getting in the door of your family home, breathing in the warmth, and shaking [...]

A little late with an update today. I had made plans to go out and purchase a printer earlier in the day, however as soon as I got in my car I realized that I wouldn't be going anywhere with a flat tire. That delayed my printer purchasing until sometime later in the day, thus pushing this back with it. Anyway, it's getting cooler outside and for the first time all summer I had to finally close my window due to it being to cold. Bummer, I was really enjoying being able to just live [...]

(Photo: Michael Conroy/ Associated Press) Week two and I have to start with the Colts. They had an easy matchup against a still terrible Houston Texans team. They had some tough injuries this game though. As soon as Brandon Stokley is back, he's out again, reinjuring his ankle. Tight end Ben Utecht had a key catch early in the game, but sustained a head injury in the process. Defensively, Freeney left the game early with a limp and Marlin Jackson sustained an leg injury. Vinateri continues to earn his check and be [...]

So all you college kids (or slightly-out-of-college kids who worked at a university, like me, and thus have access) who are on Facebook , perhaps you've seen the Apple Students Group that gives you a 25-song sampler free each Monday? The first week I saw was electronica, most of which was drivel, but last week's ("alternative") and this week's ("rock") have some decent free tracks in them. I don't know if there is a hidden catch somewhere, but if you join up (assuming you are already part of the [...]

In God We Trust was only added to the dollar bill in 1956. The freemason pyramid, along with the phrase Novus Ordo Seclorum , have been on the back of the Great Seal since 1782, and on the dollar bill since 1935. Brought to my attention by friend of Palms Out. James Tate , who also took the photo above. Magnet " Hold On " (Metronomy Remix) ** [...]

Magnet is Even Johansen from Norway, and his music is amazing. Every song I have heard is melodic and beautifully crafted. His album, The Tourniquet came out way back in February, and luckly I have just caught wind of it. From what I've found, I don't know what is really going on with him right now except he was nominated in the new category "Best Video Game Score" for a MTV Music Video Award for what he did on Dreamfall. Whatever he's up to, his music is what you should listen to. [...]
