ARGENTINA: Zonaindie Entre Ríos - Frontera Finally we get the chance to showcase this great indie-pop band from Buenos Aires on MAP. Entre Ríos is a musical project led by Sebastian Carreras (vocals, keyboards, guitar) that has been around since 1998. Their first albums were recorded with Isol as the main singer, but since her departure in 2005 they've featured different guest vocalists live and in the studio. Frontera is a MAP-exclusive [...]

From Toronto, Canada the three-piece rock band Magneta Lane consists of Lexi Valentine, Nadia King, and French. They formed in 2003 in New York, and have since released two well received full length albums entitled "The Constant Lover" and "Dancing with Daggers" respectively. Magneta Lane is now on the verge of releasing their third full length "Gambling With God" this year, where you can find this stunning song "Lady Bones", coming soon on Last Gang Records. If you are in Austin this March, you can check them out at SXSW [...]
I know I sound like a broken mp3 but I really do get excited every year when the Southwest by Southwest Music Festival posts its schedule of showcases, along with hundreds and hundreds of mp3s by artists who will be performing in Austin, Texas (USA) on the dates indicated above. Over the next I don't know how many days, I'll be posting some of my favorites. Some of them are actually old friends,
I've been a Magneta Lane fan since playing their song Wild Gardens as often as I could sneak it into my play list during my college radio station days. That tune could always mellow me out and bring positive musical refuge to an otherwise uninteresting musical selections of my college station. Realizing that Magneta Lane were slated to play the Horseshoe Tavern recently, there was no question about my possibility of attendance. I'm always a fan of female bands that can give a resounding and credible "piss off" to the [...]
I've barely written about the festival that I'm volunteering at. I've been busy and I owe a lot of other posts to various bands but with filling in for Jess and it being the exact day that the music portion of the festival begins it's perfect timing. First off I'll be volunteering at the Supermarket venue, so if you're there and you see an Asian volunteer, you can yell at Allan! if you'd like. (lol) First let's take a look at the bands playing at my venue (they're getting coverage good or bad!). Thursday: [...]

Photo by Frank Yang I came this close to having to title this post "Maybe Not Tonight" as illness forced Nicole Atkins to cancel Saturday's show in Buffalo, obviously putting Toronto's show at risk. By mid-Sunday, however, there came another MySpace note declaring that a night off had done a world of good and the show would go on. Buffalo, we thank you for your sacrifice. Good luck with that fire in Cheektowaga. Local support on the night was Magneta Lane , who were surprising inasmuch [...]
wild gardens www.myspace.com/kissingiseasy So last night I was wondering what Magneta Lane has been up to lately, and apparently they are in the process of recording their new album, Gambling With God . Exciting! I couldn't find any samples online from the new album that you could download, but if you head on over to their myspace, you can listen to "Lady Bones" which is from the new album. I've been listening to it over and over again obsessively, but that's probably because it's really good. Also [...]

I`m very excited for the Rogue Wave show @ The Mod Club tonight...If u come here once in awhile then you already know I`m a big fan. This will be my second time seeing the band live, and what makes this one more exciting is I will get to hear the new material. " Asleep At Heaven`s Gate " is a fantastic listen and I`m curious to see how it sounds at The Mod ....Also as I mentioned on the 11th of October....I`m still in the process of turning some of my CD`s into Mp3`s....this [...]
The Wombats, "My First Wedding" - The fact that I'm still discovering songs off the Wombats ' Girls Boys and Marsupials a month after getting it is, I guess, not really all that remarkable; good albums do tend to have a pretty long tail. Maybe I'm still a little surprised to discover Girls Boys and Marsupials is an actual no-fooling good album - lord knows it could have just been the two singles and a bunch of filler and I'd be perfectly content with it, but either the Wombats have one hell [...]
[review 2006: the odds and ends] Dancing With Daggers is kinda boring. It's boring enough that I can't even think of particularly evocative ways to describe the album. So let's do clunky instead: a hack and slash autopsy of Magneta Lane's latest effort. The band burst onto the Toronto scene two years ago with a juicy EP, The Constant Lover, and a disturbingly developed sense of craft considering how young they were at the time. Stuff like "Their Party Days" and "Mare of the Night" wasn't exactly [...]

Toronto, ON Magneta Lane is for all lovers of girl rock. It's as simple as that, my friends. Oh, and they're Canadian! "Broken Plates" Magneta Lane on MySpace
Rummaging around the internet this week, we've been enjoying Just Concerts from CBC , the Canadian state broadcaster. It's a massive - and we mean massive - archive of stuff recorded for CBC in a lovely, browsable form. There's a lot of Arcade Fire and Feist there, plus our new favourite band of the day, Magneta Lane . Talking of new favourite bands, we've also been enjoying The Schla-la-las , presumably though not certainly named after the old flexi label that transubstantiated into Sarah Records. For reading, there's Umlauts [...]
