Our friends over at The Big Takeover are premiering a sample track from Adam Franklin's upcoming 3rd solo album, 'I Could Sleep For a Thousand Years'. It has the pace and tone of Adam's previous work with Swervedriver and is less somber. http://www.bigtakeover.com/new s/world-premiere-yesterday-has -gone-forever-by-adam-franklin -bolts-of-melody While you're over there, sign up for the The Big Takeover's brilliant twice-a-year magazine for $20 for 4 issues. Scarlett Summer Today I got the news that bassist Carlos Dengler has decided to leave Interpol, presumably to pursue his interest in the film scores, occasional acting work and academia that is said to have taken his interest between the band's tours and albums in the years gone by. The news came as saddening, as Interpol, a favourite band of old, have grown increasingly uninteresting, and this could be the final blow. But I was inspired to check out what the other Interpol guys get up to in [...]

Johnny Moto Adam Franklin's resume is a long and impressive one - guitarist in Shake Appeal , leader of Swervedriver , principal of Toshack Highway , half of Magnetic Morning and title role in Adam Franklin & The Bolts Of Melody , with duties throughout all of them remaining consistent - craft guitar rock that ranges from the roaring to hypnotic and make it look effortless. And while technically Swervedriver's reunion continues and anytime Sam Fogarino has a spare moment Magnetic Morning can be back in action, it's as the last [...]
So the lead singer's probably not going to erupt onto the stage from a mysterious cloud of smoke, nor will there be any crazy pyrotechnics (on purpose anyway), but that's sort of the beauty of shoegaze; your attention should be on the music. And while most associate the genre with late '80s/early '90s bands like My Bloody Valentine and the Jesus & Mary Chain, today there are plenty of bands carrying on the torch, with fuzzy, distorted guitars turned way up. And you know what? They're all connected in a little game we and our pal Kevin Bacon like to [...]

Wha? Why Fitness First? Why you gotta close an hour earlier on a weekday (that isn't Friday) for no reason? I mean, it's late night shopping in the suburbs - I can buy some delicious snacks late at night, I could go and see a movie or try on some bowler hats but I can't sculpt my body? Wtf. Very disappointed. Now for some very down songs for the rest of you: Magnetic Morning (like Film School & being on the verge of passing out in the backseat of a [...]

Lots of new releases, but not too many notable ones. Bruce Springsteen and Franz Ferdinand are the clear front-runners in my mind. I might check out the Omar Rodriguez-Lopez album too, since I'm a big fan of The Mars Volta . Oh, and I put Hoobastank in there because I bet Ben Pike likes them. And the Incomplete Collection of Louisville Punk release is for Sean, obvs. :: Anahita , Matricaria (Important) :: Asa , [...]

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars When the rumor mill put Sam Fogarino of Interpol with Adam Franklin of Swervedriver together, no knew exactly what to expect from the duo. Both men have achieved varying levels of success, but could they put it altogether? Simply put, the answer is an absolute yes! Here it is ladies and gents, Magnetic Morning. Immediately the band opens with "Spring Unseen," a gentle number where vocal harmonies seem to burst [...]

It's been nearly two years since I first wrote about the collaboration between Swervedrivedriver's Adam Franklin and Interpol's Sam Fogarino called The Setting Suns . A name change ( Magnetic Morning ) and an EP later, the band's first full-length will drop on January 27. The album is titled A.M. and will be release via Friend (or Faux) Recordings . Care to check it out? There are four songs from the new album patiently awaiting to be streamed on the band's Myspace page. I've also shared one below that's been floating around [...]
What time of year is it? That's right! It is the time to watch every iteration of A Charlie Brown _______ (insert holiday here) and reflect upon the true spirit of the season. Personally, I'm still waiting for one on Festivus. It's the time of year to start worrying about how much of your inner fatkid (no pun intended) you are willing to let out. It's the time for making lists and writing down "What we have to be thankful for?" For this post, we reflect on the holiday season and the recently passed commemoration of Thanksgiving, and [...]

I realize it has been days since the presidential election; the feeling of elation will simply not subside. And this isn't just your average, every day type of feel good. This is pride. This is purpose. This is empowerment and change. This is a sense of connection to a collective ideal. This is simply phenomenal, and here is why: Melissa Young : Man For The Job . I'm going to have to second Melissa Young's [...]

Fun x 3 Fest boast an impressive group of headliners. Trail of Dead, The National, Dead Milkmen and Bad Brains give you more than enough reasons to make your way down to Waterloo Park. But the line up also boasts an impressive group of up and coming acts that are certainly worth your time. Last year saw early afternoon sets from MGMT and White Denim who then went on to... well you know. So who are some of the essentials for 2008? Here are our suggestions... [...]

I haven't heard much about Magnetic Morning , which is surprising considering the group's pedigree. It's principal members are Sam Fogarino (drummer for Interpol) and Adam Franklin (singer/guitarist of Swervedriver). Jimmy LaValle of the Album Leaf and Josh Stoddard of the Still Out round out the group (at least for recording purposes ... not sure what the live show entails). If the band is something of a secret, it's doing a good job at keeping a low-ish profile. MM's MySpace page doesn't even list tonight's show at Rhythm Room. ( Get tickets [...]
