And then, one Saturday night, our hero decided that he'd had enough partying and he went to bed for 12+ hours. So bad-ass! I feel a bit refreshed. It's been a long week, and February was an even longer month. Way too much partying. March is going to be the turning point for me in [...]
My wife and I went to see the movie "Pina" this past weekend in Seattle and I was surprised to catch a piece of music I recognized, but couldn't place. Stuck around for the credits and was pleasantly surprised to find it was the excellent Finnish instrumental act Magyar Posse , a band I enjoy quite a bit but rarely find myself listening to with any regularity. It's always good to be reminded, especially when you can be pleasantly surprised to discover the sounds have aged better than anticipated. A glut of early [...]
What an eventful weekend. Friday night we celebrated Tom's birthday (and I stayed sober! wow!) out in North Hollywood. Last night I went to a birthday party/murder mystery party that was both stupid and amazing in equal measure (and I didn't stay sober! wow!). Got home shortly before sunrise and managed to make it into [...]
I'm tired, man. I woke up at 7am again this morning. Nicci sang the national anthem at the Rose Bowl for the MS Walk-a-thon, which was really nice to hear. Too bad those walkers were antsy, it would have been super-cool if they relaxed a bit and let me sleep another couple hours. Oh well. I started to crash at work after about three hours, but I found my second wind and made it through the day without passing out. Nate, Nicci, Tom and I saw Kick Ass tonight, which I highly recommend. I haven't laughed that hard [...]

God help me if the next two weeks are anything like today was at work. I'm going to be such a miserable piece of shit. I'm trying to think positively about my temporary schedule change, but it's so depressing. I might as well be one of those cult goons standing on a street corner near the "Dream Center," handing out lemonade to passing cars. That's how useless I feel. When I took a short 15-minute break today, I found myself walking across the street for a soda, and I had a vision of myself five hours later crying over a [...]

I'm in the middle of a very heated Wii Sports Tennis tournament, waiting to learn the identity of my opponent. My Mii, named Ev. Ev., will be battling either Eat Me Out or Baby Eat for the...uh...championship. Of something. I haven't lost a single game in my two preliminary matches, so I'm pretty sure I'm the favorite to win. I think the current Vegas line on Ev. Ev. vs. Baby Eat is -220, and the line on Ev. Ev. vs. Eat Me Out is -150. After this paragraph, I'll tell you who won... I bet Baby Eat 3-1. [...]
Check out the trailer for "Aldebaran Rising" , a movie featuring new music from Finnish postrock act Magyar Posse : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =8EFRqcS96kg
Finnish post-rockers Magyar Posse are collaborating with director Petri Hagner on a new film entitled "Aldebaran rising" . The band is composing music for the work and will be performing live at the debut on Octobter 17/18 at Valimo-Sali in Pori, Finland.

Why am I so, so tired? As I write this I have just awoken from a mini-slumber. Earlier tonight I tried watching The Polar Express with Nicci to officially usher in the Christmas season, but unfortunately I could not keep my eyes open, and missed the majority of the animated holiday magic. Not only that, I decided to venture up to the garage with Ilya and others for a brief session, completely shirking my mix tape duties, so this has all been thrown together with alarming speed. Hopefully it doesn't totally suck, you'll understand my somnolence, and give [...]
A carload of hopeful explorers rolled out of the bubble that is Echo Park shortly after noon yesterday. It was Ilya's birthday, and his goal was to spend the day in the desert. For two hours we traveled along I-10 and Rte-62. We chatted, we sang Superdrag and Big Star songs as ordinary signs of civilization began to fade. Strip malls and multiple-story buildings turned into dusty expanses and small shops or warehouses. We reached Joshua Tree exactly two hours after the trip began. Our first order of business was to find an Internet Cafe so Ilya could [...]
...And here's post #2 for today. It's just a mix tape. No cool stories or updates to go along with it. Although, if anyone out there knows CSS and wants to tell me how I can align everything on this page so that it's always centered, and centered in every browser, that would be immensely helpful to me. And if you haven't already, please buy something from me on eBay ? I'd like to stay on the west coast for as long as possible, and your money can help ensure this. Thank you. Now for some music. [...]
I just discovered this band yesterday, and boy have I been missing out. If you like post-rock at all, do yourself the favor of a little investigation into this wonderful band from Finland. Magyar Posse is a six-piece instrumental act from Pori that includes the "normal" post-rock mixture of traditional rock instruments as well as the stringed variety and of course rampant percussion. Since I've listened to them one day and I'd basically be summarizing their online bio, I'll keep this short and sweet. You can get more info at [...]

Today you get a good dose of grab-bag music. Like always my taste proves very inconsistent. "Don't you mean eclectic ?" No, I would say inconsistent . The definitions of both are almost the same. But inconsistent means a lack of harmony between subjects whereas eclectic isn't necessarily inconsistent. So basically this is not a mix (it doesn't mix). Maybe some you like, and some you don't like. Or you don't like any of them. Or you like them all (close neighbors of mine on last.fm). I really [...]
Magyar Posse - "Länsiväylä" mp3 Magyar Posse - "We Will Carry You Over The Mountains" mp3 Magyar Posse - "Violent Lover" mp3 Magyar Posse have unleashed three unreleased beasts: one from rehearsals for the new album and two from pre-debut album era. That is kind. There is also full live show recorded at Oulu, April 17th 2005, available for download. Which is kind also. I'll see Magyar Posse live action in two weeks. I should try to get to [...]
First, the good news: Magyar Posse's latest album "Random avenger" is unmistakbly a Magyar Posse album. Their sound is so incredibly distinctive and well... Finnish. I don't know how else to describe it. When I talk about Finnish post-rock (which doesn't happen nearly as often as it should), this is what I'm referencing. I'm sure that band has competition beyond the very-awesome Plain Fade, but I have yet to hear it. Anyhow, I was kind of disappointed by the band's last record, 2004's sophmore slump "Kings of time", so I was really hoping to be wowed by this new one. [...]
Remember last time I said I had a favourite band? They were from Toronto and went by the name of Crystal Castles, their Nintendo no wave blitzkrieg is blasting sharp window bytes off those stupid...
