It occurred to me the other day that it's been a while since I heard from Maia Hirasawa . After all, she's responsible for one of the finest, catchiest indie pop songs ever made . So I decided to do some catching up and to my surprise, not only had the lovely Swedish/Japanese singer/songwriter relocated to Japan, she also released a new album over there last year! Her self-titled Japan-only album is a collection of new songs in English and Japanese, as well as assorted tracks from her second album and Swedish EP. The lead single "It [...]
Maia Hirasawa will be doing one last batch of dates in Japan this month, her last for a long while: http://www.maiahirasawa.com/ja pan/

Maia Hirasawa - " And I Found This Boy " It's Tuesday, it's dreary outside, and I could use some upbeat piano-pop to brighten my afternoon. Enter Maia Hirasawa. This singing-songwriting, Swedish/Japanese vocalist reminds me a bit of Regina Spektor, only with more sunshine, rainbows, and horns. This upbeat-like-whoa song is the first single from Maia's debut album, Though, I'm Just Me (released this past February on Thrive Records ), and despite it catchy, celebratory feel, actually addresses the loneliness of touring and a recurring attraction to the wrong [...]

După primele audiţii am rămas cu At the Top of the Hill în cap. Posted in [...]

When I first came across this email with Maia Hirasawa in the subject line, I couldn't help but be a little excited as I thought I was going to be reading about news of an upcoming album or something along those lines. Unfortunately, it wasn't any kind of news of that nature, but this is still worth mentioning! Thrive Records is set to be releasing the swedish sweetheart's debut album Though, I'm Just Me , which was originally released last year in Scandinavia on Razzia Records , here in the [...]

maia hirasawa , yet another emergent swedish pop sensation, will see her debut album though, i'm just me released in the states early next year. we received the first single, "and i found this boy," a buoyant piece with somewhat embittered lyrics, and thought you all might like a listen. maia hirasawa - and i found this boy and have a look at the video, too, a charming little scene set in a dim-looking men's room:
Sofia Talvik 's final duet partner for the countdown to the release of her new album "Jonestown" is the always-wonderful Maia Hirasawa : http://vids.myspace.com/index. cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual &videoid=42217765
So. This is the last video to be posted, and you have now heard all 12 songs from my new album. Last but not least I'm happy to present Maia Hirasawa . Maia received a P3 Guld award for newcomer of the year when she released her album, and I had to go all the way to Gothenburg to record this song with her. I caught her in the middle of her changing appartments but she was as happy and carefree as her own music is, and she also brought that to the final song [...]

I'm back! I didn't realize how much I truly enjoyed writing this blog until I was without it for a good two weeks. But fear not, a whole bunch of trial and error on my part led to the site getting even more screwed up, then eventually I figured it all out and got it working again. Word to the wise, don't fix a broken blog when you yourself barely know what you're doing. But I'm stubborn like that so what can you do? But, I've got the newest version of Wordpress now, which is pretty fancy, and for the [...]
School's out!! After all is said and done, we go our separate ways* and I amp up the written correspondences in attempt to remind loved ones that I haven't forgotten them (&likewise, a nudge for them not to forget me, either). *the RIYL crew is currently dispersed all over the continental US and Hawaii. One of [...]

Trams coming in, there's wind from the sea But I don´t feel cold, it's not shivering me And I thought I didn't like this city but I've changed Pass the place were I lived in 2002 And I can see the square close to my old school In the middle of Northtown, just feeling good Did not think I liked this city, [...]

So, Springfield's pretty much flooded. It has rained non-stop since probably 8pm last night. The tiny creek next to my uncle's shop is now a raging river and driving around town, since Springfield's drainage system is terrible, is near impossible and a lot of intersections you just have to take backroads around. Let's just say me and the weather here in Springfield have been on bad terms for quite a while now. This year has been ridiculous. T-shirt weather, next day ice storm. T-shirt weather, next couple days flooding. I've never been ready for Spring and Summer to arrive in [...]
So I feel good about these songs so I encourage you to listen to them. I wonder if there was really a science behind how many points letters are in scrabble or it was just random. Anyway I always wanted this threadless shirt. Maia Hirasawa - And I Found This Boy Silversun Pickups - Little Lovers So Polite (One AM Radio Remix) French Kicks - Abandon School of Language - Rockist Pt.1 Lightspeed [...]

Wow, apparently it took till 2008 for me to hear the best pop song of 2007. But boy I'm glad I finally did. This might seem like a hyperbolic statement, however Maia Hirasawa's "And I Found This Boy" is truly masterful. Overflowing with brassy bombast and orchestral theatrics and lyrics that are at once vulnerable and defiant, I want to give this song a giant hug and then dance through the streets Broadway style and then drink and cry alone. It's just that overwhelming. When Maia sings "And don't say I'm desperate, I'm not!" with her Japanese-Swede pixie [...]

This weekend as my anger grew from the constant train delays I experienced while traveling in Germany, I decided it would be helpful to go through my music library and find that one song that could put me in a better mood. After only a few tracks I found it, a playfully upbeat slice of pop heaven by Maia Hirasawa called, "And I Found this Boy". I honestly have been listening to this song about 10 times a day. This Swedish-Japanese singer-songwriter has got a knack for making happy music…just plain, simple, happy music.

While sifting through my 2007 library of albums for my aunt's Christmas present mixes, I came across Maia's wonderful album Though, I'm Just Me , which I'd listened to obsessively over the summer and then kind of forgot about until now. Music is strange like that, but I'm right back into my pop-filled Maia obsession again and I couldn't be happier. She's hard to fit into a genre, but most songs are like little orchestral, epic pop songs sounding like Regina Spektor mixed with Bjork. Her singing style is quirky like Regina's, and she has a [...]
