To understand Major Organ and the Adding Machine , you have to understand the concept behind the all-seeing, all-knowing American power troupe that is Elephant 6. Now based in Athens, Georgia, the group was founded by childhood friends Rob Schneider, Bill Doss, Will Hart and Jeff Mangum. Since the collective's inception in 1991 the four have formed some of the most influential experimental-pop bands of our time, including Apples in Stereo, Dressy Bessy, Neutral Milk Hotel and Of Montreal. While Major Organ and the Adding Machine's line-up has never been confirmed, many suspect it's the work of Magnum, Hart, The [...]

I'm taken back to the early 90s whenever I hear Elf Power and now I'm finding out that they're about to release new self-titled album. Judging from the first single, "Stranger in the Window," I'm eagerly anticipating what else these guys have up their rock sleeves. I doubt I will be disappointed. Elf Power will be playing tonight at Strange Matter with another great Richmond band - One Friend . There will also be a showing of Major Organ and the Adding Machine , a short film based on the self-titled concept album by [...]

English Version: Shocking news!!!!. It has been release a trailer from the upcoming Elephant 6 movie "Major Organ and the Adding Machine". Let's explain: Major Organ and the Adding Machine is an Elephant 6 "mistery" or perhaps it's a fable like the hippies, inuits or michael jackson. It's said that it was a Jeff Mangum and Julian Koster side project, but the fact is that in 2001 "they" with the collaboration of the Elephant 6 gang made an album [...]
This was meant to be Tuesday's MP3 to complement the Major Organ news, but now it's Thursday. Here's the first Major Organ and the Adding Machine track ever, a cover of Louis Armstrong 's "What a Wonderful World" (actually written by Bob Thiele and George David Weiss and released by Armstrong in 1967). This version, which its creators could never have imagined, appeared on the Kindercore Records compilation Christmas in Stereo (1997). Major Organ and the Adding Machine - What a Wonderful World
Jeff Mangum, born in 1970 in Louisiana, is the founder and main lyricist and songwriter of what was the band Neutral Milk Hotel (1989-1998). Neutral Milk Hotel was a highly influential indie rock band who released two full-length albums, On Avery Island (1996) and the epic In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (1998). He was also one of the founding members of The Elephant Six Collective, along with three of his childhood friends Bill Doss, Will Cullen Hart, and Robert Schneider. The Elephant Six Collective spawned many notable independent bands, including The Apples [...]

I've had this for a while and revisit it every now and then, and I never fail to find something new that I missed on the previous listen. Unless you have atleast some sort of an Elephant 6 obsession then there's a good chance you've never heard of this album before. Major Organ and the Adding Machine was released back in June of 2001 on Orange Twin Records , they originally gave this description of the album. "The major is a sound poet, [...]
