Indie-electro trio Union of Knives this week revealed that they had split up, and with the announcement came the now obligatory goodbye statement. Sometimes a band's last words are witty, more often they're as bitter as a lemon marinated in vinegar. We've compiled a dozen of the best break-up speeches by Scottish groups, starting with the most recent. Will the last to leave please switch off the lights? UNION OF KNIVES (January 2010) Craig Grant (singer): [...]

On June 3, Glasgow-based MAKE MODEL announced that Lewis Gale - the band's founder, co-singer, principal songwriter and guitarist - had quit with immediate effect. No explanation was given but signs that all was not well in the Make Model camp were apparent in May following a slew of cancelled gigs including support slots with The Fratellis, We Are Scientists and The Futureheads. Gale's decision to leave was disastrous for Make Model. It cost the band their deal with EMI, who dropped them and [...]

I stubled upon the following news this evening on Make Model 's Myspace and thought it was worthy of sharing: Hello Everyone, It's been a pretty hard, emotional week for us all - Lewis has left the band with immediate effect. This has come as a huge shock to us all and has forced us very quickly to decide what to do about our current commitments. We have decided to cancel all our current live commitments and take [...]
Who: Make Model Location: Scotland elbo.ws Ranking: N/A (for right now) Thoughts: In doing my research on Make Model, I found an article in which they were compared to Broken Social Scene, Fleetwood Mac, and The Arcade Fire all in the same article. Now I fully believe it's lazy journalism to just sit there and compare bands to other, more popular bands, but to compare such a young band to such
this month's glasgow artists highlight ends with make model . videotastic! and sadly for once, the lazy mosquito has bitten me good, so these word's ain't mine, but the words of my news publication of choice: theguardian! The LSB, their debut single released in July, all stomping beats, call-and-response, duelling-gender chants and shouts and a chuck-it-in-the-mix approach to production. During [...]

Sauchiehall Street is the best street in Glasgow, if not the planet. At number 490 is legendary dancing den The Garage , where every student in the city has spent their nights and much of their loans not knowing when to call it a day. Stumble a few doors down to 482 and you'll find post-club Chinese grub at The Noodle Bar and a plethora of guilty pleasures (you can't go wrong with the Szechuan chicken). At 468 is Capitol : part bar, part gig location but, more [...]

Make Model are unnoticed now, but just wait. If you like Arcade Fire (seriously, who doesn't?), then check this band out. Formed just over a year ago and comprised of former members of underground Scottish acts Fickle Public (vocalist, guitarist and all-round spokesperson Lewis Gale and bass player James Cameron), Carson (singer/guitarist Gordon Skene and fellow six-string accomplice Matthew Casey) and Dance Lazarus Dance (drummer Ray Black). Add the vocal and keyboard talents of Aimi Gold and you get the six-piece band from Glasgow, Scottland. Their debut album is currently being mixed by Rich Costey (whose credits include Franz Ferdinand [...]

'Make Model' sounds like something to do with Airfix kits but they turn out to be a new up and coming band from Glasgow. They come over as a bit of a 'pop' Arcade Fire, and they have almost as many members. Having only just released their first single 'The Was' before Christmas and with no album yet in the offing, they are very much in their infancy but they certainly show promise. They have some great slow building songs. One to watch out for I think. As [...]

In my last post featuring The Dead Soul Brothers I posted a remix of band called Make Model. Since then I've fallen a little bit in love with Make Model's good timey, folk rock style that resonates with me in a similar way to one of my favorite song writers of all time, Liz [...]
Have I got a treat for you! Those Dubsided guys have been known for having endless aliases and side projects, passing each other around like a collection plate, but i think they've finally found the best union yet. Hervé's newest side project, with new partner Seba (not the Drum and Bass Seba, BTW), Dead [...]

It was only a matter of time. When an Arcade Fire comes along and makes every band feel a very tangible sense of inadequacy by comparison, the only logical response is to take their blueprint and make it your own. That might be a little harsh on Glasgow's MAKE MODEL , who clearly have many original ideas, but with half-a-dozen members not shy in creating a veritable on-stage cacophony, there's no denying their benchmark is made in Canada. Make [...]
