Monday, August 9, 2010 Today's Quick Mention: 4 years! As of today, that's how long this site has been up on the interwebs. I've had a lot of fun. Hopefully you have too. Now, let's get back to the music. I'm actually packing up and moving this week (update your address database, PR people!), so I didn't really have any time to assemble anything other than a normal posting of five tracks. Enjoy. : Makeup Monsters - Rude [...]
Oberhofer Brooklyn Brad Oberhofer I grew up in Tacoma, Washington, and I love that place. I live in Brooklyn now, and I like it. I started recording music alone under the name, "Oberhofer", because I'm not clever enough to come up with another name. After moving to New York, the idea of playing live shows sounded fun, so my friends Andrew Heaton (guitar), Mike Parham (bass), and Pete Sustarsic (drums) [...]

The Death Pit Makeup Monsters - "Rude Romantique" By way of analogous example, take for instance that time in childhood when you're in the grocery store or a museum or an outdoor crowd, and it's winter. A lot of people have that similar brown thigh-length coat with the fur-lined hood and by accident you follow the wrong person, thinking it's your parent. Until finally, you think of something to say, tug on the grungy edging of that coat and the person turns around with this [...]

Nightgowns and Makeup Monsters at EMP | 2 July 2009 The first Thursday of every month the Experience Music Project opens its doors and lets you in for free. The Frank Gehry architected museum that seems to float under the Space Needle is a curiosity that seems to verge on something of a tourist trap. Inside are some interesting tidbits of Pacific Northwest Rock 'n roll history, some sci-fi memorabilia and and of course the building itself which is interesting to the eye if for no other reason than Mr. [...]
The hip hop/jazz fusion group Dyno Jamz ran away with the show this past (past) Saturday, March 7th taking both the overall title as well as the audience responce award for Sound off! 2009 at EMP. Their enthusiasm poured onto the floor of the packed Sky Church and got the crowd up and moving as they laid down their stylized mash-up sound. Zac Millan is the quintessential smooth MC on the mic, and Colin Pulkrabek takes the human beatbox into new dimentions after killin it on trombone (yeah...there's 2 trombones!) Though Dyno Jamz opened [...]

The third and last of the semi-finals went down this weekend at the EMP Sound Off, giving us 3 of the 4 bands slated to perform at the finals happening this Saturday, March 7th. ( and we have tix for you to win!-see below ) . The winners of the 3 semi's competing for the title are as the brassy hip-hop compilation, Dyno Jamz , that slayed the first round. Tacoma minimalist rockers, Makeup Monsters from round 2 and hip-hop aficionado SOL rounded out round 3. [...]
