Chicago's Mako Sica is a jazz-influenced indie rock trio. The band's name is taken from the Sioux Lakota term meaning "land bad". The group will release their new highly-limited vinyl record Dual Horizon on February 16th. You can get a taste of it with the MP3 for "I'Itoi". Mako Sica's Myspace

Mako Sica is a trio featuring Przemyslaw Krys Drazek on guitar and trumpet, Michael J. Kendrick on drums and Brent Fuscaldo on vocals, guitar, and percussion. The band's La Société Expéditionnaire debut, Dual Horizon , was recorded and mixed [...]

If you ever catch yourself thinking "I just don't freak out hard enough these days" then Chicago's Mako Sica are the band to flip your crazy switch. Recorded completely live without overdubs, their far out debut album 'Dual Horizon' is released courtesy of La Société Expéditionnaire , limited to 250 LPs. Exploring punk, jazz, avant-gard, drone, chanting, noise and psychedelia - often at the same time - opening track of three 'I'Itoi' (named for a mythological Native American god who lives in a mountain cave and watches over the desert) sets out the band's agenda for dark, [...]

Mako Sica är en trio från Chicago som skapar dösskön och episk ökenrock. Namnet kommer från Sioux-indianerna och betyder land bad (bad land?) eller land dåligt eller dålig land...ning. Man får tolka hur man vill! NMB <3 <3 <3 [...]

Sadhu Sadhu are another solid experimental psych band in what seems an ever expanding universe oozing its way onto the Chicago music scene. More Cave than Mako Sica (to name just a couple examples), Sadhu Sadhu's Live At The Hideout features deep bass grooves and soaring, twisting guitar lines. Although the band says they've been compared to Acid Mothers Temple and Can, there is more than a hint at the loopy, droney side of Yo La Tengo at play in their music as well. [...]
Simply put: There are thousands of great local bands playing every week in our fair city. Some you might know and some you might not. Seeing as it's the beginning of a brand new decade, we thought we'd point out some local bands who we think are on the verge of breaking into the big time. And isn't it always cool to say you were a fan of popular act back in the day when they were playing for eight people in a crappy dive bar? Yes, it is always cool. [...]

Chicago experimental outfit Mako Sica are streaming their first full length album titled Dark Horizon at La-soc.com . The record is currently scheduled for a February release. Dark Horizon was recorded and mixed by Todd Rittman (D. Rider, US Maple, Singer) and Jim Zespy (Magnolia Eclectric Co.) at Logan Hardware . According to the press release, the album was recorded live without any overdubs - which is an impressive feat in this studio-as-an-instrument era. The album offers a [...]

Chicago's Mako Sica are in no hurry. They aren't terribly interested in giant crescendos or massive riffs. This (mostly) instrumental band, consisting of Michael Kendrick on percussion, Przemyslaw Drazek on guitar and trumpet and Brent Fuscaldo occasionally on vocals, utilize an array of instruments such as guitar, congas and something known as a thumb piano to instead explore the space between said crescendos and riffs. Their debut, Mayday At Strobe , out on Permanent Record's house label, their 9th such release, was recording [...]
