The Blogophilia repost project continues... We've been busy with a lot of good submissions, and that's a good thing. It's time to take a breather. Today, we move forward with our goal of re-posting past volumes of Blogophilia due to demand. Remember, we're doing this all the way to volume 22, and then phhffttt! We're stopping there. Volumes 23-28 are currently active (zip format only for volumes 23-27), and we're making re-posted volumes available for about a week. Get 'em while you can. Blogophilia 15 [...]

I'd love to say that I forgot to post on Malachai's "Snowflake" until Lexington was buried under a foot of snow, but the truth is that I didn't get to hear Ugly Side of Love until last week. It's easily one of the most varied records I've heard all year, ranging from riff-heavy tracks like [...]

[mp3] Malachai : "Fading World" We're not British, but we know a lot of British people. We've dated them, played music with them, lived with them, and well, have done pretty much everything with them at one point. We're privy to the North v. South battles, the polite disdain they harbour towards Australia and Ireland, and how much they all fucking love Kings of Leon for some reason. Yet, we can't claim to be experts on [...]

Ok, somebody please explain to me how this whole album releases in the U.S./UK thing works, because I'm LOST (no appropriately timed pun intended). Bristol band Malachai released their debut full-length, Ugly Side Of Love , last year in the UK, but it didn't make it across the Atlantic until this week. What's the deal? Is this not 2010, the age of innovation and instantaneous global communication?? (I know it's on iTunes and junk, but let's be real: A LOT of things are on iTunes. I just want some real American promotion here.) BAH. I'm not used [...]

Here's a linguistic lesson, boys and girls. Malachi means '"My Messenger" in Hebrew. The slightly tweaked name of Malakai means a group from Bristol, UK. If you're going to name yourself after one of the prophets of the Hebrew Bible, you better be damn heavenly. And while the band may not be a religious experience, it does act as a messenger of a hybrid form of dubstep and straight trippy rock. The group is basically a duo. Leading the way is the fiery haired mononymous Gee. The man behind the [...]
I had been told to expect a musical apocalypse, yet for Malakai, judgement day is seeming increasingly difficult; even God himself would need time to define the genre of such a wide ranging performance. If apocalypse is now, I'm struggling to keep up. 'You've got to hold on to your world' proclaim Brighton's brightest duo, but [...]

Honestly i can not wait for this Friday because two of my favourite events are coming together to throw one hell of a party! Sins On Sunday has been killing it for the past 6 months down in geelong and it just keeps getting bigger and better, there is nothing on a Sunday in Melbourne that comes close to this party! This Friday the Sins crew have joined up with The Late Show and are holding an All-stars night at mine and everyone's favourite venue Revolver . [...]

Malakai are a Bristol based duo consisting of two guys named Gee (on vocals) and Scott (on the decks/music). They use a mix of processed drums, organic and non-organic samples and an elastic laid back vocal to create songs that recall hip hop, reggae, dub, soul, 60s pop and even Western soundtracks. (more...)
Last month we posted about the UK band Malakai who seems to be single handedly carrying the 'Bristol Sound' torch. The group was personally signed to Portishead founder, Geoff Barrow 's label Invada. That in itself should speak volumes about the validity of this band. A quick listen at the few tracks they have unleashed only and you can tell that Geoff definitely played a role in the production of Malakai's forthcoming EP. A new promo video for the new single battle was released on youtube. So psychedelic. [...]
Back in school classmates would always ask each other 'if you could marry anyone in the world who would it be'? Most used to immediately reply with 'Lark Voorhies' or an ecstatic 'Tiffany Amber Theissen'. I always had my answer poised at the tip of my tongue, should anyone ever ask me, though they never did... But if they did I'd scream shamelessly 'Beth Gibbons'! Between the years 1994 and 2000 Beth, Geoff Barrow & Adrian Utley, collectively forming Portishead were the air that I breathed. Portishead posters, [...]
