After the release of Derek Jarman 's Jubilee in 1978, Vivienne Westwood , outraged at what she saw as a misrepresentation of punk, took to her then preferred medium, the t-shirt, to express her displeasure. New York | London Hello. My name is Devonte Hynes. I make music under various guises such as Blood Orange , Lightspeed Champion . and sometimes, just under my own name, but that tends to be for more compositional or scoring work. I grew up in London, which is where I spent the majority of my life up until 5 years ago, when I moved to New York City. My first foray into music was the [...]
Goin' Old School isn't a trip down music memory lane, it's a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia: OK, so I'm not sure why 'Headhunter' hasn't made Goin' Old School yet, but it's time to rectify that. Anton Corbijn directed Front 242 , in their game changing track from 1988. Be crushed by that bassline, it's literally all reverb (the original sound was removed). Pure '80's Synth Funk here from The System and their 1982 track 'You [...]

malcolm mclaren - "carmen" (download) From Malcolm McLaren's LP Fans , released in 1984. This record was Malcolm's attempt at blending r&b/hip hop with opera. It's your call as to how well he pulled it off. This song isn't for everyone. To be honest, the opera parts tend to get on my nerves, but I love the production overall, and Angie B' s rapping parts go well with Malcolm's music.

A few days ago when I was pondering Cheerios, I considered that the cereal would be ideal for serving at state functions while entertaining foreign dignitaries. Alas, as I cannot gut a moose, I fear that I have no possible route to high office where I could enact this bold idea. But I think I'd make a fine head of state and I suppose that I could overthrow a current leader and install a puppet regime. Like moose-gutting, leading a coup d'état is not in my skill set. Yet I have an innovative [...]
By Thomas Michalski Watch more on Network Awesome In a backwards-looking pop cultural landscape, permeated by nostalgia and meta-quotation, it is worth noting that no one seems to be trying to make it big aping Adam and the Ants. With post-punk, and indeed the wider sphere of 1980s pop, serving as popular reference points, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Talking Heads and many others have enjoyed a resurgence in popularity and influence, [...]

¿Recuerdas Upside Down, una de las primeras y mejores canciones (a mi parecer) de The Jesus and Mary Chain ?

One of the cable stations is running some week-long airing of the movies in the Rocky series. I remember seeing the first movie in the theater in '76 when the film was captivating the country and I've never seen an audience more electrified . It's a stellar movie. Numbers II and III were decent popcorn flicks, but by the time I got dragged to number IV, things had reached a cringe-inducing point. That aside, I had to watch the opening montage to Rocky III when I happened across it if [...]

This list of musicians who we lost this year is by no means definitive, and is entirely dependent on my faulty memory (other than birth and death dates, which came from Wikipedia - I'm not that good).
