Long have I adored the work of Malcolm Middleton , ever since he worked in Arab Strap . Luckily, since it's raining, I opted to pick up his new LP, which is basically his first album of recordings that never saw the light of day until now. He's been really busy lately, or so it seems on his site, so I'm happy to pick up A Quarter Past Shite . It's [...]
De-Fence is the electronic arm of Fife's Fence Records and if either of the names are new to you then we recommend you get yourself swiftly acquainted. The latest outing on De-Fence sees FOUND's Kev Sim AKA River of Slime fire up his MPC for two tracks of freestyle glory that's along the same lines as the fantastic "Volume One" release on our own wee label . River of Slime - Slime on De-fence Scottish indie stalwart Malcolm Middleton [...]

The legendary Malcolm Middleton has announced he'll be playing a few UK shows this December. Not only that, be the support slot will be taken by his new project, Human Don't Be Angry (which we throughly recommend). Middelton will also be selling a new album of old & unreleased songs on the tour called A Quarter Past Shite , and the official Human Don't Be Angry Live At Leeds bootleg CD. So you have to go really. Nottingham, Bodega - Monday 5th [...]
If you ever had the chance to listen to Scottish group DeRosa then you are probably just as excited as I am to hear new music from Martin John Henry , one of the group's principal songwriters before their demise. He's been working on solo stuff, and we're finally going to have a release, with The Other Half of Everything being released in the UK in October. On first listen, there' a whole lot of Malcolm Middleton , though I hate to pigeonhole the entire singer/songwriter [...]

Aidan Moffat Sheffield is tetchy. The conference and its attendant inconvenience is in town. And, for all that earnest folks in bright lanyards can be seen chatting animatedly through the windows of the more well-to-do hotels and bars, all the delegates add to the tetchiness a cloud of guilt and trepidation (when they venture beyond the temporary compound that is the City Hall). Not a bad night for going to see the two former halves [...]
Just so we don't forget those of you who isn't following us Facebook yet. Please do. But here it is, the best Christmas song. Well, I think is.

Nun gibt es diesen Abend auf Tonträger konserviert: Das Doppel-Live-Album "Malcolm Middletons Long, Dark Night" / "Malcolm Milddleton With Band! [...]

Over the last few months well, since we last ran a cover version feature ( see here ) there seem to have been a wave of rather excellent cover songs that really warrant a bit more press. Here's a list of ten that I have found over the last few weeks. What you think? Any favourites? David Dondero - Here Comes The Sun (The Vampire Version) - [...]
If you're lucky enough to be close by or in Glasgow this weekend, then head on over to Eastern Promise, a music festival being brought to you by Platform over the 1st and 2nd of October. The lineup includes King Creosote and Malcolm Middleton on Saturday night (as you can see from this here poster). [...]

Not one cover, but four, I really do spoil you lot sometimes. Three of them come from the spurt of recordings that Malcie did as part of his 'girl band cover project' and the other is his take on '10 Green Bottles', which was given away to anyone that signed up to his mailing list on his tour last December. We have my friend Jamie to thank for that one, as I was at another gig that night (can't remember who). So mind and say thanks to him for sharing this with us all. [...]

This is a track that I forgot I had in my archives and which elicited a double-take when I was cruising for something to post. I didn't believe it was tagged correctly or was some sort of hoax, but no - that thick Scottish brogue does indeed belong to former Arab Strap -per Malcolm Middleton , he is indeed trading verses with Craig Finn whilst the rest of The Hold Steady back him up and yes, that is indeed a Bryan Adams tune they're tackling. It was recorded in May of [...]

![[Listen] – Admiral Fallow – "Squealing Pigs"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2632209_lg.jpg)
Starting off with a simple folk-y guitar melody, the single from Scotland's Admiral Fallow then breaks into a shuffling drumbeat, with rousing male-female vocals, jazz flourishes from clarinet and double bass, and a chorus that inspires you to sing along. I'm a fan of musicians with Scottish accents (see also: Biffy Clyro, Malcolm Middleton, Frightened Rabbit) and the Louis Abbot and Sarah Hayes' vocals here have a rough-and-ready charm that meshes perfectly with the ramshackle folk-rock directions the song takes. Admiral Fallow already have some well-placed fans – their debut album, "Boots Met My Face", was [...]

Something of an eclectic collection for you today, which I guess is inevitable when you press that little shuffle button! I've included the location of each artist, as well as myspace linkage for further listening. Make sure you check out Hello Saferide ('Anna' is a gorgeous song), Malcolm Middleton and Sam Baker in particular. I find that Matt Pond PA track is best played nice and loud as well. Hail Mary - Young Lords | myspace (USA) [...]

I was planning a list of my favourite albums of the year, as I never normally do that, and there were at least a couple of new records in 2009 that I'm positive I will still love in 2019, 2029 and then from beyond the grave. However, I started seeing other peoples lists and got a bit disheartened. How can anyone have a list of 20 albums of the year, let alone 50? Maybe I'm just too fussy? I love music but 90% of the new records I hear bore me rigid, so when I do find something [...]
