Wilson Phillips are back with Dedicated, a tribute to The Mamas & Papas and The Beach Boys. Despite my fondness for all three bands (Wilson Phillips' self-titled debut is tied to many a childhood memory), I expected this to be a disappointing, overtly sentimental album. Yet this homage to their respective parents - Beach Boy [...]

Thanks to @puroinstinct for posting this today. Haven't been able to find out much except that is is by a group called Denial and is a cover of the Mamas and Papas original. The cover was released in 1982 on MSQUARED RECORDS . Time for a re-release?
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame presents the music and nothing but the music on CD.
This first appeared on their 1967 album The Mamas and The Papas Deliver.

"Hippy Chick" spans the globe for the universal vibe of Hippiedom. John Braheny was a singer and songwriter whose song, "Warm," appeared on his one and only album, Some Kind Of Change , which was released in 1970. He went on to write songs for others, including Linda Ronstadt and the Stone Poneys. It's followed by "Make Your Own Kind Of Music," a song written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil and originally recorded by the Will-O-Bees. When Cass Elliott made it a hit, it was [...]

If you're mood seems affected by all the dark, glitchy, post-dubstep artists, or those numerous burnt out, fuzzed, atmospheric, post-chillwave, guitar bands that are ten a penny at the moment, then you might find Grouplove the perfect antidote. During economic times like these, with all the job losses and cutbacks, alongside all the natural disasters and politically-charged rioting around the world, you would imagine the perfect backdrop would be the minimalism of James Blake , or the immersed saturation of Echo Lake . However, the last thing you need when your feeling at a low is [...]

Hump day here and I'm sitting in my bed sick so what better to do than post some remixes! First up is a glitched out remix by the up and coming Minnesota . This remix itself has gained a ton of respect and landed him over 15,000 listens on his Soundcloud within the first week it was posted. I'll be writing up more about this guy in the near future so keep your eyes and ears peeled (right click and save to DL): The Mama's and Papa's - California Dreamin' (Minnesota Remix) [...]

We want to talk about vocal harmonies a little bit today, as this new five piece from Oxford have mastered the skill as well as a thousand barber shops. Obvious comparisons to The Beach Boys will fly around, as they combine three or four voices, often at higher pitches, to increase the scale and volume of the harmonies, much in the same extraordinary way Brian Wilson and his boys did back in the 1960s. The real magic with singing like this is when you reach something that the Mamas & Papas called the 'third [...]

Hey guys. I'm going to be taking a few days off. I bet you can guess why. Until then, enjoy this: California Dreamin'.mp3 All the leaves are brown And the sky is grey. I been for a walk on a winter's day. I'd be safe and warm If I was in LA.

by feeney Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums- #126 Check out more from this list at listenbeforeyoubuy.net This debut album by the Mamas and the Papas manages to embody the idealistic spirit of the psychedelic 19602s, and has certainly stood the test of time. The album is a combination of folk, pop, classic rock, and soul, and features mesmerizing harmonies and incredibly catchy lyrics. The songs are fairly well-known, including California Dreamin' and Monday Monday, as well as some heart-filled ballads. I [...]
![[PLAYLIST FRIDAY]Dreams](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2567877_lg.jpg)
by teepoo When we fall asleep our thoughts are filled of images and things most of them the impossible. When we speak of "our dreams" in the sense of desire, we think of what is not the easily obtainable, usually a lover but sometimes something more personal. About 3/4 of the world's music is in some way about dreams but here are some songs of various genres that were directly inspired by or about dreams. 1. A R Rahman [...]
This song was released in 1965, the same year I graduated from high school. It was on the album If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears. MP3 File yousendit

I love you, I love you, I lo-oooo-ve you! Had I been a teenage boy in the 60s I'd have had posters of Mama Michelle Phillips all over my wall. She was Laurel (Canyon) to Mama Cass's Oliver Hardy, the skinniest, blondest hippy chick in the whole of sun-kissed California and quite possibly the sexiest girl singer ever, although that last point is clearly open to healthy debate. Michelle. On the pool again. The story of The Mamas and The Papas is best told by [...]

The Sweet Serenades Genre: Rock / Powerpop / Indie From: Stockholm, Sweden If you're a fan of thoughtful uplifting uncomplicated pop with ear grabbing hooks that sounds like it was hewn from the headstone of Mama Cass then look no further than Sweden's The Sweet Serenades. Although frontmen Martin Nordvall (vocals/rhythm guitar) and Mathias Näslund (lead guitar) first met in 1991 they started The Sweet Serenades over 11 years later in 2002, since when they've been [...]

This is from my On This Day, History Channel calendar: 1966: The Mamas and the Papas, First Coed Group Make a Hit The Mamas and the Papas were the first chart-topping group to contain both men and women. On this day in 1966, their hit Monday, Monday soared to the top of the pop music charts. Though several male groups featured female singers, this was the first pop group to compose male-female arrangements. MP3 File
