10) Thom Yorke ? The Eraser It seemed like a no brainer for one of the greatest songwriters of our time to release a solo effort. Skeptics worried that his attachment to his relatively new found love for the sonic versatilities of the electronic tic and tac would throw his effort into the sea of obscurity. Yet repeated listens have proven that Yorke can travel the road alone, combating the

List season once again! Boy, I love making lists. Last year, I posted EAR FARM's Top 15 albums of 2005 on December 1st and then returned at the end of the year to re-post the list with some comments and links to songs. This year I've decided to give you all of the goods at one time, dig? What you'll find below are my "top" 15 albums released in 2006. What does this mean? Favorites? Bests? Both, yes. These are the bests of my favorites. The [...]

UPDATES on the BLOG and some pretty sweet mp3s Damn, I love this picture. My vows to you the reader: 1 - No year end "Best of..." List on this page 2 - No Christmas songs on [...]
I honestly despise "best of" end of the year posts. But I couldn't let my favorites be forgotten. And yes, if everyone else was jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge, I probably would too. Who wants to be left alone? Last year I compiled my favorite songs of the year , which I plan to do again, but I had to give props to the albums that were almost played to death for me this year. My list will be obvious to those who know me, and to those that aren't -- you will notice there is [...]

Hello Wednesday. What's up with that look in your eye? 7 songs I actually started putting this song list together last week and with the addition of the Stone Roses and Kay Hanley tracks, I finally felt good enough about this thing to share it. [...]

HATE SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL has posted one video plus one mp3 by Man Man ... here . Posted: "Banana Ghost" (the quicktime video) "Van Helsing Boombox" (the mp3) Download: "Black Mission Goggles" (mp3) Myspace page is here . Ace Fu page is here . Emusic page is here .

Man Man have released their new video for "Banana Ghost." The song comes from their album Six Demon Bag , which I particularly enjoy. Tom Waits-esque vocals combined with some LSD trippiness - their last video was played on Nickelodeon, it was so crazy. Think Wonder Showzen in musical form. image courtesy of antville Man Man - Banana Ghost [quicktime video] Man Man - Van Helsing Boombox [MP3]

Four points of random interest today: 1. The Art of Modern Rock chronicles the work of some 350 of the leading pop-art poster designers of the last fifteen or so years. The book follows on from Paul Grushkin's The Art of Rock: From Presley to Punk and documents what the authors have termed as the "recent unprecendented explosion in poster-making." I just wish they had some decent examples on the site. Read the full press release here . 2. Though it will feature [...]

List makers and list haters rejoice, we're back for round four! If it's mid-November, then it's time to start thinking about those year-end lists, which means it's time for the fourth annual, often imitated, never duplicated Top 40 Bands In America list. Yes, some people think of this little exercise as The Top 40 Bands In America As Voted On By A Bunch Of Effing Music Bloggers That Only Listen To Cooler Than You Guitar Based Indie Rock And Not Much Else , [...]
Welcome to blog radio volume eight. I would be silly not to call this post, "the ocho." Crop Circle - Message from Aliens or from Bored Pranksters? And so there it is. I usually save these blog radio spots for the weekends, but I have heard so many tracks this week that I was into - I just couldn't wait. These songs, by the way - for new visitors, are what I am listening to and where whimsy
A little bit of everything to help ease you through this particular Friday. Hope to see all you Capetonians at the Taxi Violence gig at Mercury tonight. If not for you, I'll try to have some other options up for you later in the day. Listen: The Wrens - Happy Voxtrot - Trouble White ...
I noticed this morning that The New York Times ran a feature about the CMJ Music Marathon and mentioned your favorite blogger music friends and mine, Division Day : In a World of Cacophony, Experience for Sharing The rock critic Robert Christgau gave an interview last month to the Web site popmatters.com . Mr. Christgau, who was recently dismissed from The Village Voice after 37 years, talked a little bit about recent history. But he also talked about an old obsession of [...]

While I only have about 10 hours to decide on a Halloween costume, that doesn't mean I can't have a sweet soundtrack while I do it. Here are some of the finest tunes of the season! Your Costume The most important part of Halloween. Here they range from Ted "I'm a Ghost" ...

I really am forgetful. [pause] Now that comment has had time to settle, please, please, please, please do not expect regularity with my blog. Regularity is defined as posts everyday. I can post a couple times a week depending on my work-load and partying-load (yes, I am a terrible person). So I'm still laughing at George W. Bush talking about "the google" and "the internets" but that aside, I have some... real stuff. [...]

Klaxons It's Sunday. Y'know, that one day that's supposed to be a break, but since you know you have to go back to work/school tommorow, your day is instead kinda...well, blah-ish. But hey, just so you know, I'm thinking about you guys, and maybe--just maybe--this mix will get you through the day: Mountain Goats Pet Politics (Silver Jews Cover) Man Man Black Mission Goggles [...]

more images here A nother great bill at the Opolis last night. It's Hysterical opened with one of their best sets to date. I may get chastised for talking about the same thing twice in one week, but they too have a new stage set up. Opposing Daves worked the mics and guitars into frenzied harmonies and played nicely off each other's energy. Just a really solid set [...]

Being utterly stressed by exams and projects this last weeks I spent the past Saturday drinking myself off at a fancy 12 hour fest my grandfather threw to celebrate my grandmother's 70th birthday. At some point in this type of parties the band will eventually play a meaningful ballad selected by the couple and they'll get up and dance the piece while they get joined by other members of the concurrence. In the middle of my drowsiness I was left wondering the ballad I would choose in my own wedding. My mind kept thinking about "no surprises" by rh or [...]
