I don't know if this is just a phase I'm going through, but I can't get enough of quality music videos right now. When done right, the music video/song combination can be really effective, which is often forgotten as more and more artists are settling for generic green screen music videos . Judging by the ratings that you've been giving the last couple music video posts (keep rating!), it seems as though you're enjoying them, so if that's the case I will continue sharing. Let me know! Manchester Orchestra just put [...]

I tend to gravitate towards artists that sing about geography, whether it's Sufjan Stevens with his states project , The Mountain Goats with his various geographic odes , or The Rural Alberta Advantage's dedication to their Hometowns . This week Bon Iver released the first track, "Calgary" to his excellent new album Bon Iver, Bon Iver , which triggered a subsequent leak a couple hours later. Largely due to his relentless touring schedule, Bon Iver was inspired by places and [...]

By Todd Harrington "This is not the Vans Warped Tour" singer Andy Hull called from the stage early in to Manchester Orchestras fourteen song set. Over zealous fans towards the front decided pogo dancing needed to roll in to a little more of a "mosh pit" during "Shake it Out". Hull didn't stop the show, but made his point clear and the audience were then treated to a powerful set of music pulling from each of the bands three full length records. The five piece made seemingly quick work of the songs, keeping banter [...]
![[review] Manchester Orchestra – Simple Math](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3451135_lg.jpg)
mp3: Manchester Orchestra - "Simple Math" Always appreciated Manchester Orchestra as one of those cross-genre bands, not like Taylor Swift or Kanye or something, but just a band to navigate the tricky Paste Magazine / Alt Press divide. There is a divide. But Andy Hull, the lead and founder of Manchester Orchestra, has walked that tightrope, combining introspection with rollicking chords that makes Manchester Orchestra a favorite with the punk rock teens and the pensive indie rock overthinkers. But here Hull & Co. darts off the map [...]

Manchester Orchestra seem to be on the tip of everybody's tongue lately, and for good reason. So far, their third full-length Simple Math (see my review on the sidebar!) is forerunner for album of the year with little to no competition in sight. You can check out the third track of the album, "Pensacola" which is one of my favorites courtesy of RedBull and check out a slew of other songs the band did over at their site.
This should have come out last week if not for Blogger's two-day hiatus. Took a long road trip this weekend. Started to grade music on a new scale. The road trip scale. I was surprised by how many of my favorite albums are not the most enjoyable to listen to while I'm driving a car. Actually, I found myself skipping rapidly through them to get the songs I wanted to hear while avoiding the

Myspace | Official | Facebook | Twitter Yes, I will admit that sometimes I will search up a musician just because their cover art or album title intrigues me. It's a superficial method, but hey, I've stumbled across many of my favourite artists this way. It happened again a couple days ago. Pitchfork did me a solid when I happened across the cover art for Des Ark 's sophomore album Don't Rock the Boat, Sink the Fucker along with a review [...]

Manchester Orchestra certainly knows how to bring different types of intensity to their music on every album they have released, including their recently released album Simple Math , which just came out Tuesday, May 10th. This new album straps you into a roller coaster fueled by the dynamics of each song. Lead singer, Andy Hull, carries us through the album with his distinct voice that is painted with their southern background, and lyrics that are infused with a hint of his ministerial ancestry. The album also introduces quite a selection of texture and mediums ranging from squealing horns [...]
If you aren't busy tonight, you should join me over at the Mod Club to catch what should be a great double bill. The Australian duo of Kate Cooper and Damon Cox, better known as An Horse, make a heck of a lot of noise while in the process of charming you. Unlike most duos though, they steer away from the blues rock cliches. The last time I saw them, Cooper almost got herself electrocuted by

Manchester Orchestra on Letterman
On the band's latest album, Manchester Orchestra seems to lose of a lot of the passion and rock 'n' roll momentum that have made their last two LPs pretty decent. They've exchanged this for some relatively heavier production and string arrangements. In my opinion, it wasn't that great of a trade. Though all of these arrangements lend Simple Math a finer, more dynamic feel, many of the songs here feel drowned out in their wish to cloak themselves in different sounds. Sometimes that sound is a booming guitar, and sometimes it's [...]

Wow. OK, so even after having to cut off the whole first half of the song, Manchester Orchestra still put on a helluva performance last night on Letterman, blasting through an epic rendition of "Virgin" . They even got the Brooklyn Youth Chorus to accompany them for the chilling chorus. Wonder if any of them youngn's are MO fans? Wouldn't doubt it.

Lead singer and guitarist Andy Hull and lead guitarist Robert McDowell of American band Manchester Orchestra chat with Braden to talk about 'Simple Math' being complicated, being out of tune at Leeds and Stone Cold Steve Austin in lyric videos... "I've been playing it to literally anyone who's taken an interest," begins Andy Hull, "like, if someone in the pharmacy said they liked my music, I'd want to take them out to my car and get them to listen as some sort of validation." The Manchester Orchestra frontman is quite excited, and [...]

Today's Friday Mixtape comes to you from Jan and it's entitled PaperPlanes. It's very much softer and slower . There will be no rump shaking around here this week. Thanks to everyone else who sent in their respective mixtapes.
