Monday: The Slits, The Sundelles, + Sisters @ Highline Ballroom 7pm $15 [ tix ] Amid all the hoopla surrounding the reunions of bands like Pavement, My Bloody Valentine, Pixies, The Vaselines, Mission of Burma, etc., etc., some of reunions have been lost in the perpetual motion of all this getting back together. One such band is Britain's The Slits, an all-girl punk group that is sorely underrated and being a bit overlooked once again. The vivacious punks have been reunited since 2005 and are once again touring to pump the new Trapped [...]

EAR FARM is a very ethical place to work. For instance, it has a long-standing policy that the bands of employees will not be written about in any promotional, or critical manner. So while EAR FARM used to write about Goes Cube, we no longer do because Matt (our fearless editor) now plays bass in the band, and I (guitar/vocals of Goes Cube) recently joined the EAR FARM staff. Thanks to this policy, I can't just turn this column into one giant advertisement for Goes Cube. I can't use it as a soapbox from which to tell you how [REDACTED] [...]

This is called the Slowcast because there are so many songs and, more commonly, whole albums out there which I took ages and ages to get into, and for no really obvious reason. There are several reasons, I guess: how familiar a sound is, your emotional state at the time, what your mates are listening to, how popular something is and stuff like that. I know I've admitted plenty of times in the past that I have a habit of refusing to like things if they get too popular. That sounds ludicrous, but it's not exactly a conscious [...]

Goes Cube is set to release their full-length debut, Another Day Has Passed , on May 12th via The End Records and will hit the road in May/June to promote the release. In related news, the band has announced that they will be amicably parting ways with founding member, and close friend, Matt Frey. Here is the official announcement: Matthew Frey (above right), co-founder and bassist of Goes Cube will be stepping down from his bass duties in Goes Cube. His final show will be 5/14/09 at the [...]

Thanks to everyone who came out to the show we helped organize on Saturday. It was a huge success all around. Gold Streets played one of the tightest, most powerful sets we've heard from them in a while, which is saying something - they remain one of the most solid groups we know. And Mancino - unfortunately forced to drastically cut their set down after some technical difficulties with their Rhodes - managed to floor the packed room with four still as-yet unrecorded songs that loaded as many ideas into a tight twenty or [...]

Back when we were first starting to book bands for the Hot Rocks Party , we had Mancino booked to play a date and asked them if there was anyone in particular they'd like to play with. Their suggestion was chopshop . After listening to the band's impressive first demos, we were interested and invited them to join the bill. And after hearing them play live at the show, we were convinced these guys were one extremely talented group of musicians. Eventually, they played a couple more StereoactiveNYC-sponsored events, but then, unfortunately, had to [...]

above: EAR FARM's CMJ Music Marathon 2008 slideshow If a comparison needs to be made between Austin's South by Southwest and New York's CMJ Music Marathon , let it begin and end with the simple fact that SXSW is the far superior music festival/conference experience. All of Austin shuts down and welcomes the yearly Spring extravaganza, most New Yorkers don't even know what "a CMJ" is... and rightfully so. The trade show portion of the festival looked like a sparsely populated small-town high school career day; the majority of the bands playing this [...]
