In titling his newest album " America ," Dan Deacon, whether he likes it or not, has declared the release an experiment in scope - an all-encompassing, all-enveloping opus that is as much about its epic nature as it is actually about the concept of America. "USA IV. Manifest," with its steady, manic build toward climax, delivers on the promise with an orchestral electricity that feels suited for big stadiums in big cities in big countries. It's that largeness, that grandiosity that evokes America in all of its idiosyncratic beauty and faults.

Friends made things quite difficult for themselves from the off. Calling your band after one of the most popular, long-running TV shows sets quite a hoop to jump through, to gain any kind of brand recognition above the namesake with immense amounts of notoriety. But then again, Friends clearly don't want to be a brand, they just want to have a good time and fight for what's right, if their most notable single and many people's introduction to the band 'I'm His Girl' is to be believed. FRIENDS have seriously been doing all the right things in the lead up to the release of their debut album. They've released a couple of incredibly catchy pop tracks, which have gone onto be picked up by a ridiculous number of music blogs as well as a high rotation on Triple J. And if you know anything about anything, that equals success. Friends - Manifest! By Russell Warfield 2010 single 'I'm Your Girl' sounded exactly as breezily-cool and nonchalant as you would expect of a track from a Brooklyn band with such a resolutely un-googleable name as Friends . Whether it be the stale typographic stylisation of their unexplainably underused moniker or the gratuitous exclamation mark tacked onto the name of the debut full-length, Brooklynites Friends seem all too finely attuned to that which they're up to. " I'm His Girl " was a track of that toyed with retro sonic tropes - the absurdly funky baseline, the background vocal harmonies - in a way that made Friends feel almost kitschy. That might sound like a slight, but it isn't meant to be; "I'm His Girl" was one of our favorite tracks of the year because of its elements of pastiche and Brooklyn campiness. In a few days Friends drop their eagerly anticipated debut album Manifest! and in anticipation they've let another track from it see the light of day. 'Home', a taught pop-funk belter, continues the rich vein of form that has made Manifest! so anticipated in the first place.
