Alex White | Photo by Audrey Leon Guitar World recently ranked the "10 Female Guitarists You Should Know" and Chicago's own red headed force of nature Alex White of White Mystery made the cut. The magazine listed White's raw energy and "jangly punk-ass guitar playing" as reasons for inclusion. If you have ever witnessed hard rocking duo White Mystery live - and the band has given us plenty of chances, logging over 100 shows in 2011 alone - Alex White puts on an electrifying [...]

Seeing how our staff has distinct tastes and opinions on music, it would be nearly impossible for us to determine a 10 Albums of 2011 list as a single entity without excessive bloodshed. So over the next couple of days, we'll be posting Top 10 Albums of 2011 lists as determined by individual Loud Loop Press staff members. Today, associate editor Audrey Leon offers up her list for Top 10 Albums of 2011. I decided to do it a little differently this year. I honestly didn't think I could find another way to describe how great [...]

We're only mere weeks away from the official start of winter, so don't forget to party while you still can. We're talking about some great shows including The Cell Phone s at The Hideout, Russian Circles at Lincoln Hall and Missing Monuments at the Empty Bottle. Let's rock and roll, hoochie koo . FRIDAY THE CELL PHONES It's hard to believe that the [...]
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving with only a minimal amount of pepper spray in your eyes. The best way to awaken from our collective food comas is to watch a rocking holiday performance by Chicago's own Mannequin Men . The jangly garage rockers went to A.V. Club headquarters and dusted off an obscure 502s gem, written by Sid Tepper and Roy C. Bennett, called "(I'm Getting) Nuttin' for Christmas." Even those of us who are easily annoyed with holiday music can get down with this track, which maintains its indie rock [...]

It's time to listen to a bunch of the tracks I have not posted recently. These are just a few of the songs that would get their own individual posts here on GIMME TINNITUS if I only had the time. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. Listen. Downloadables: Runaway (Kanye West cover) (mp3) by Parts & Labor Beluga (mp3) by Milk Music [d/l Live at WFMU on Brian Turner's Show on July 5, [...]

Jangly rock supergroup Bare Mutants made their Coach House Sounds debut this week with a sweet set full of 60s pop-inspired rock'n'roll. Bare Mutants are not just a group that are super, but a band of well-known Chicago misfits containing former Ponys' frontman Jered Gummere on guitar and vocals, Mannequin Men's Seth Bohn on bass, Derek Nelson & the Musicians' Pete Falknor on drums, The 1900s' Jeanine O'Toole on vocals and percussion, and newcomer Leslie Deckard on organ. This week sees the return of Chicago's Mannequin Men , with their self-titled new album. We gave the guys the Vinyl District grilling on the eve of the record's release. You are a rock & roll band with melodic sensibilities. This is part of a noble tradition, is that something you set out to be from the off? That just comes from being fans of other music with melodic / pop sensibilities. It's more subconscious than anything. We write music influenced by whatever our flavour of the moment is. [...]
Mainstays in the Chicago music scene, Mannequin Men are the Midwest's answer to Atlanta-based ruffians and sometime tour mates the Black Lips: fuzz-addled, hook-heavy, jangly retro rock with antics to spare. Their self-titled fourth LP covers a lot of territory in its 37 minutes. There's 60's garage rock, mod, Twin Cities power pop, spit wad punk, and yes, even some rambling country influence. A mishmash of genre-dipping aside, Mannequin Men have had eight years of Midwest dive bar gigs and dues-paying tours to sharpen their snark, and it's widely apparent on their latest effort. [...]

Chicago garage rockers Mannequin Men have been releasing records since 2005 and on November 8 they're releasing their new self-titled lp via the Chicago-based label Addenda Records . The band has decided to release "Flyin' Blind" as a teaser track for the album, and it's definitely gotten my attention - it's a catchy track with longing vocals that should please both garage and indie fans. Listen to "Flyin' Blind" below and head over here for an mp3 of the track. (via WWDIS )

Happy Halloween, folks! And a good Jesusween to all you lil angels. We've got a packed weekend again with JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound combining forces with White Mystery tonight at the Double Door and Mannequin Men making plans to tear it up at the Empty Bottle tomorrow night. Let's not waste anymore time. Allons-y! FRIDAY JC BROOKS & THE UPTOWN SOUND [...]

Today's song is "Hobby Girl" by Mannequin Men . The Chicago foursome consists of Kevin Richard, Ethan D'Ercole, Seth Bohn, and Miles Raymer. Their music has a feel good rowdy and raw vibe. I was instantly smitten with this track. Listen below and for more information check out their MySpace , Facebook , and Twitter pages. "Hobby Girl"

Mannequin Men's new self-titled album is a stew of all sorts of lo-fi, punk, and psychedelic rock mashed into one tasty Mannequin Men-shaped bowl. You'll hear influences from all across the history of rock, psychedelic, and punk. So many in fact that it might make you think you have Alzheimer's when you can't figure out what you think you're hearing right away. This mystery of "I can't quite put my finger on what this sounds like, but I like it" gives these songs more depth. It also [...]

More news from Chicago this morning- The Mannequin Men have a new self-titled album coming out November 8th for (also Chicago based) Addenda Records . Bassist Miles Raymer says this about the new disc: "Speaking not only as a member of the band but also as a fan I have to say that this new record has to be the band's strongest effort yet, and the one that best reflects the talents of the people I play music with. A lot of hard work went into it and I think it shows." [...]
During the month of September I wrote what I believe to be an I Rock Cleveland record eleven record reviews. October started with a road trip to ATP and super cold. I'm still dealing with super cold (I haven't spent a full day at work since last Wednesday). In between a number of jams fell through the cracks. This is the first post of two that will showcase some of the finer jams that have yet to be featured here on I Rock Cleveland. Five years back, Chicago's Mannequin Men were making trashy, garage rock in [...]
