There are rare moments when I have a sneaking suspicion I am actually at the spot of maximum fun on any given night in DC. Last night was just such an experience. The particular equation for optimal fun in this instance was : Black Cat + Wednesday night + Carousel + Mansions on the Moon = maximum beats. The beats were seriously coming fast and furious over the two bands’ awesome sets in the Black Cat’s intimate backstage room. Carousel led off with an adrenaline pumping dance fiesta ranging from their original works to [...]

"Cause you heard it on the radio/Doesn't make it beautiful." A song with a good beat can hold it's own any day in my book, but when the lyrics make you think it's definitely an added bonus. Mansions on the Moon 's latest single, Radio , does just that. The track is a great synthesis of upbeat (I can't listen to it without doing the unprofessional but inevitable office-chair-wiggle) and contemplative. It's mellow enough to allow you to actually listen to and appreciate the lyrics. The group's put together a narrative that paints [...]
We all want so much man, over achievement and extreme ambition are glorified and admired almost universally these days but have you ever stopped to ask why?... Hustle, hustle, hustle. Grind, grind, grind. Why does everyone got hustle on their mind?" MIA was something else back then, I remember first hearing that hook and questioning everything. I won't get into all that right now now but always remember to look around your environment and question what you see. Just because everyone is doing something, just because it's tradition, [...]
First of all, The Ranch Party was awesome even though most of what I remember was being stuck in over an hour of traffic to check-in, the school bus ride that took us to and from the festival and how many people were camping out was ridiculous! Overall I had a great time and below [...]

Tomorrow in the Topanga Canyon / Woodland Hills area of Los Angeles, the first Ranch Party festival is going down. It's a great line up of bands and DJs that the expected crowd of 1,000+ are sure to love all day and all night. The Los Angeles Times' Pop & Hiss music blog featured a nice write up on the festival you can check out here . Along with an added charity fee, a portion of the proceeds from the festival will go to ranchkids.org, an organization that works with at risk and special needs youth. Here's [...]
Anyone within a days drive of LA should be aware of the 1 day festival kicking off this Saturday. As if the eclectic lineup stacked with TBE faves (see below) isn't enough, its set on a 20 acre ranch in the Santa Monica mountains. Just look at it! Anyway, you should all come out and join me on Saturday for a day and night of dancing, revelry, and probably a lot of comments on how beautiful the view is. Get into it! One lucky person can win 2 tickets to The Ranch Party right [...]

Goldroom , the nom de tune of electro whiz Josh Legg, has been added to the bill for the Ranch Party , the one-day festival Saturday in Topanga Canyon that features 20-plus artists. The Internet, Kisses, Mansions on the Moon and Races are some of the other acts at the top of the bill for the event, which is being held at a bucolic spot in the Santa Monica Mountains. The music starts at 2 p.m., and shuttles to the Ranch (a 15-minute trip) start at noon (there is no on-site parking). There is free parking next [...]
The Ranch is an epic live music benefit party, nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains of Los Angeles. In the spirit of the music scenes that came together in LA's canyons, The Ranch Party allows you to come camp out at the top of Mulholland Drive for a full day & night of LA bands, [...]

Because you heard it on the radio, doesn't make it beautiful. Have you ever thought that your feelings would best be expressed in a monologue from the made-for-TV movie Sybil, starring a young miss Sally Field as a woman with multiple personality disorder? Yeah me neither. But I have often felt that my feelings would best be expressed in song. You know which scenario I've always wished I
It goes without saying that the fall mixtape is my favorite of the year. I've spent the last two weeks narrowing this down to what hopefully will be as rad to hear on your end as it is each time I listen through it on mine. Getting the closest friends, setting your destination for the [...]

I feel bad for being mad late and sleeping on this new jam by one of Pharrell's favorite groups, Mansions On The Moon . These guys have been making quite a name for themselves since the release of their mixtape Paradise Falls 2 years ago and their latest EP Lightyears released earlier this year. Check out the group's newest cut, the anti-Radio track titled.. well... ummmm... "Radio" below which is available as a free download and if this is your first time hearing the band, check out [...]

and if it doesn't sell we gotta switch it up ♫ Mansions on the Moon - Radio The Los Angelenoes behind one of the year's best EPs are back with a bonus jam that delivers more of their signiture falsetto vocals and infectious grooves. Summer nights get an extension, your ears get a massage, and traditional radio gets a slap in the face.

"Because you heard it on the radio/ doesn't make it beautiful / where did all the music go? / I think it's locked in a box in my heart and my soul." Mansions on the Moon tell an honest but sad tale about the state of music today in their latest release, Radio . A story about musical and moral sacrifice for the almighty dollar brings the band together with producer Neal H. Pogue for a a tempered but catchy track with textured vocals from Ted Wendler which lend a delicate and haunting back up harmony [...]

I sure love these Moon goers. From Moon Boots to Mansions on the Moon, Moon music is soooo the next big ting (thing). With Mansions' latest, 'Radio' has got one chillwave flow and a message all of us independent music lovers can appreciate. Lyrically I like, well, up until the point where the chorus hits highest. It just sounds a little cheesy how they took this old saying, "follow the leader," especially with the "Ya, ya, ya's" right after, but maybe it's just something I gotta warm up to. [...]
Los Angeles' own Mansions On The Moon released a new track to the world, a tasty synth-pop treat called "Radio". Oozing cool and catchy, it's got an undeniable shimmer complete with light-as-a-feather falsetto vocals, making it impossible to not draw comparisons to Passion Pit — which isn't a bad thing at all. Download the song for free here . Mansions On the Moon's latest Lightyears EP is out now and also streaming here .
