Stomach flu bad. Remixes good. Late Of The Pier Best In Class (Soulwax Remix) Blueberry (Simon Bookish Remix) I bought this 123 single because it had the words "Soulwax Remix" on the front cover in all caps. I didn't even know who the original artist was when I picked it up. I've heard enough Soulwax remixes to know that when they take hold of a track it they own it so much that they practically own it. This one is no exception. I [...]
Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia: From 1989, Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr’s Electronic project, here’s featruing Pet Shop Boys’ Neil Tennant with Getting Away With It… . Pretty much Mantronix ’s best tune, 1987’s Who Is It? Here on The Tube, as there’s no video. Here’s Electribe 101 & [...]

Mantronix : Don't Go Messin' With My Heart [ purchase ] Whether musical or otherwise, quotations tend to be used for a reason. Perhaps the artist or writer wishes to prove a point, or to allude to another work in order to stir or inspire specific feelings in the listener or reader, feelings they know to be entwined with well-recognised and culturally significant artifacts. To an extent, quotations - especially musical ones - can be seen not just as winks toward a knowing, post-modern audience, but also as subliminal attempts to [...]

When I posted excerpts from the I'm Gonna Git You Sucka soundtrack a few weeks ago (which can be found here) there were a few comments about the singles from the album, and the remixes they contained. I didn't even know such singles existed! So I thank those who mentioned them. The Discogs merchants from who I bought them from probably thank you as well. And now all the readers should thank you too, because here are some remixes from the said singles. Boogie Down Productions Jack Of Spades (Extended Remix) [...]
Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia: This week on Goin’ Old School we’re going back to one of my first love B-Boy Electro, Electro Funk, Electro Boogie or whatever you want to call it. The Problem is most of the classic cuts from back them don’t have videos, but luckily we can kick off with the quintessential Electro jam, Afrika Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force ’s ‘Planet Rock’ from 1982 We love some Mantronix [...]
Thanks to "Old School Hip Hop Tapes" we're going to be dropping some serious heavy pressure over this week – this being the first, an absolute steamer of a mix from Mantronix back... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]
Before Mantronix was making R&B, Kurtis Mantronik and MC Tee was not only Electro pioneers but the best in their game. From 1984 to 1988 they produced some of the best Electro Hip Hop in the world and constantly reinvented their sound with evolving music production technology, culminating in 1988’s ‘In Full Effect’ album and the ‘Simple Simon (You Gotta’ Regard)’ single. This will most likely be my only post for the week. Barring any further disruption (...long story) I will be heading to Miami this Thursday for the Ultra Music Festival to see Duran Duran, Underworld, Hybrid, Pendulum, Erasure, Royksopp, Ed Rush & Optical, The Chemical Brothers and about a billion other electronic acts. I'm getting to South Beach on Thursday afternoon. The concert, however, does not start until Friday afternoon, so if anyone out there has any entertainment recommendations for someone who does not like to go to clubs, get shitfaced and have creepy anonymous sex [...]

This is one of the joyful ones. One of the ones that make me want to leap about the living room with gay abandon ('Leave me out of this' - Gay Abandon) ['You stole a joke from Smash Hits in the 80s?' - Any smarty pants]. Mantronix does Kelly Rowland; Joey Negro does Labrinth; Freemasons do George Michael; Seamus Haji does Jamiroquai and Duck Sauce do Barbra Streisand. A pretty storming 74 mins of soaring, swooping, chunky, floaty house including Oakenfold with him out of Bros , Camille 'The Creeps' Jones, [...]

just-ice - "latoya" (download) Former Brooklyn punk club bouncer Just-Ice has had some heavy hitters taking care of his production over the years. This album, 19862s Back To the Old School was produced by Kurtis Mantronik ( Mantronix ), Just-Ice' s Kool & Deadly was produced by KRS-One , his fourth album Masterpiece was produced by Grandmaster Flash , and in recent years he's worked with DJ Premier . As [...]

HURTS - Wonderful Life (New Version) HURTS - Wonderful Life (Mantronix Remix) HURTS - [...]

Hurts' new video is a tribute to the missing dancer . Nice! In case you missed it, grab the Mantronix remix here

We've only featured the great new U.K. band Hurts with remixes before by Fred Falke and Jamaica, that's a bit of a shame for us and hurtful. But now we will give you Hurts big time. Hurts are a preppy duo from the UK consisting of Theo Hutchcraft and Adam Anderson. They make synth pop in a tremendous way. It's beautiful, got soul and it got the big inspiration of the 80s synth era of Depeche Mode and similar bands. We'll start with their new single "Wonderful Life" that is released on August 23 [...]

hurts - "wonderful life (mantronix remix)" (download) These guys look like Ultravox and sound like Culture Club. Their single "Wonderful Life" was already a recent favorite of mine before I heard Arthur Baker's awesome remix, and then stumbled on this remix from 802s electro legend Mantronix, which takes the cake as far as these re-workings go. There's really nothing about this song that would lead you to believe this DIDN'T come straight out of the 802s. website

"After buckets of blood, tears and gold and emptying the contents of our hearts, it is now over." Teo and Adam found...happiness. The Manchester duo are set to release their long-awaited debut album, 'Happiness", on September 6th. Before that, Hurts will release their second single 'Wonderful Life', which was recently remixed by Arthur Baker , on August 23th. Here's the Mantronix remix of 'Wonderful Life' for your own happiness... Hurts: 'Wonderful Life' [Mantronix Remix] [ mp3 ] [...]
Well, not really round 2, it’s the same track. We premiered Kurtis Mantronik of Mantronix ’s awesome reMix of HURTS ’ ‘Wonderful Life’ yesterday , and now we’ve had the go ahead to offer it to you lot as a download! Read what we said about it here , and download it right here. ♫ HURTS - Wonderful Life (Mantronix reMix) ‘Wonderful Life’ is being re-released as a single backed [...]

Had a brief break in HURTS -ing you over the past few weeks, but with this piece comes the ushering in of official news...great, rad, awesome news even. But then again, when haven't I been super geeked to reveal some bit of info surrounding the Mancunian duo of Theo Hutchcraft and Adam Anderson. Hey HURTS, bring on the pain! First note of worth: HURTS will release Wonderful Life [...]
Surely this is too good to be true? HURTS ’ ‘Wonderful Life’ reMixed by producer extraordinaire, Mantronix ’s Kurtis Mantronik! Following in the footsteps of Arthur Baker, Kurtis Mantronik is the second New York Electro Hip-Hop pioneer to tackle the song (all we need now are reMixes from Afrika Bambaata, Manny Parrish and Grandmaster Flash!) and brings a real old school Electro feel to the track, complete with Planet Rock kicks. I can’t put my finger on why ‘Wonderful Life’ lends itself so well to this kind of reMix…it just does! [...]
This is part three in Salacious Sound's The History of Electro. To recap what we've covered so far head on over to Part I: The Death of Disco and the Rise of Kraftwerk and Part II: Electro Gave DJs Their First Grammy! Following Kraftwerk's rocketing rise to fame in 1981, little uncertainty about the influence of electronic music in the domain of global pop culture remained. But the synth-driven acoustics of Computer World only tell half of the story of electro's early development. After [...]
