Manu Chao is a fantastic musician, but what sets him apart from many other musicians is that he uses his music to promote change. Artists like Manu Chao come to the forefront in times like these when there is an aura of change in the air. Whether you support the occupy movement or not, there [...]

Manu Chao 's "Clandestino" is such a gorgeous track. That being said, here is some background info of the performance: "While in Arizona, Manu Chao visited the perimeter fence of the notorious jail facility known as 'Tent City', which was conceived by Sheriff Arpaio, and where inmates are forced to suffer degrading treatment and to endure the extreme temperature range of the desert by living outside in tents. Manu Chao, along with bandmate Madjid Fahem, serenaded the walls of the jail with a heartfelt rendition of his song 'Clandestino'. This version was captured on film [...]
Manu Chao is a staple of my musical library when I'm fixin' for a little international flavor. Here's a remix of Dia Luna Dia Pena. It's more of an original than a remix, but the vocals fit so well in there, we're just gonna call it a remix. "No genre left behind"...comes to mind in this track. World? DnB? Breaks? Electro? Glitch? You name it. It's there. Hope you all dig. It's a FREE download. If you download, just be sure to let at least one friend know that this is a free download, and karma will be on your [...]
Austin City Limits served as the ultimate break from the status quo, an ephemeral voyage to a utopia far removed from normative daily life, embedded in the heart of one America's most interesting cities. Also, the extended weekend was a long overdue first trip to Austin, TX for me personally, and I immediately became enamored with the place (a city with great live music and great Mexican food - is this real life ?). The familiar ambitions of seeing as many bands as humanly possible and packing a month's worth of debaucherousness [...]

photos by Tim Griffin Arcade Fire / The Walkmen The 10th annual Austin City Limits festival came to a close on Sunday with a headlining set by Arcade Fire (who also taped an edition of Austin City Limits the TV show one day earlier ). It was a rough year for some attendees. I'm talking about smokers. Austin Statesman posted the following before the weekend: We welcome all the people and music [...]
The Sunday finale proved to be the finest of the fest with a chock-full schedule brimming with eclecticism. Always great to have this much on the slate to get you back and moving once again after a long weekend. With The Head and the Heart, Walkmen, The Lee Boys, the absolutely insane Bomba Estereo set, Manu Chao, Death From Above 1979, Arcade Fire and Empire of the Sun, the schedule was full of great bands I haven't seen much or at all. A lot of stylistic range in Zilker Sunday and it proved to be an incredible end to the [...]
Much more to come from the final day of this year's Austin City Limits festival. Continue on for videos and a few photos from yesterday.
