samo as an end to playing art well what better way to kick off sundays randoms than with a basquiat quote. i like basquiat's paintings, just not the mythos surrounding him, which i guess is why i like the incongruity of the quote. so i guess these fuckers ain't playing coz i'd struggle to find another link between his neo-expressionist scrawl and this, from a pair of fella's who describe their music as a digital gumbo. and it's an electric soup i'm rather enjoying. It might be due to a band that was in our neighborhood where I grew up that played similar music and it's just bringing back some sort of memories. It might be due to the robotic nature of the beat, working among thousands of people on spaceships you tend to feel you are definitely a puny part of some big-ass machine. Or it might be due to every time I hear this type of music it makes me think of Tool's [...]
The band's name features the buzz word "zombie" and hails from New York, but don't write Manual Zombie off. This is fresh. Mixing the instrumentation of traditional psychedelia with homemade gadgets - everything from samplers to the buzzing of television tubes - Manual Zombie pulls you by the headphone tech down into a celestial swamp and lets you hang uncomfortably. Ice From the Sun is nasty, delicious, shifty, possibly completely improvised psych that lays the fuzz on thick and keeps the vocals to a grumble or a growl, like Dead Meadow after seeing some shit that [...]
