So in today's quest to find some new music I figured it was about time to sort through the insane amount of soundcloud tracks that have recently been sent to us. Boy was I happy to find this gem known by the name Manwomanchild . They self-describe themselves as having a 702s glam-rock style sound and I'd say that's pretty spot on, yet hitting a more modern re-creation of it by adding in synths and complex lyrics. Their debut self-titled album was released in December of 2010 and is filled with tracks featuring [...]
Sincerely hoping that you're still following Michael Møller 's A Month of Unrequited Love project? If not, then you missed this wonderful little gem yesterday! Probably the closest we've been so far to anything sounding remotely like moi Caprice ? Michael Møller - As You Walk Away
Here's a quick one from the mailbox. Nice video (and equally nice song) from US pop/rock act manwomanchild . From the band's self-titled debut album .

Manwomanchild - Reasons
BEST OF 2010 : The album isn't dead. But, like the dinosaurs, it may not outlast its smaller, warm-blooded colleagues. In 2010, the EP became something more than a tour curio or a year-end reminder of a band's existence. For bands unable or unwilling to make the artistic and financial investment of a full-length release, the EP became the perfect format: long enough to showcase what a band could do without being too short to pass off as a one-MP3 wonder and just right for self-releasing and giving away free, as so many groups chose to do this year. For [...]

"I wanted to give you something special," David Child sings to open Manwomanchild's self-titled EP, and the band doesn't falter in that respect. The three-song set exudes the knowing rock elegance of Lou Reed or Dean Wareham, all steely male vocals and clanging guitars interwoven with the delicacy of an Hermes scarf. "Must've lost track of all reason / and you say goodbye," he continues on "Reasons." To that, we say: hello. Welcome. Manwomanchild - "Reasons": mp3 (Buy the EP from the band on their site ) [...]

Who : Hotel St. George Location : San Diego, CA RIYL : White Rabbits, Death Cab for Cutie, Cold War Kids Thoughts : First time listening to Hotel St. George they sounded like a very standard indie rock outfit. They were completely unoffensive, they stuck to basic song structures, and they sounded okay doing those things, but nothing really stuck out. That was until the song "That's Why I Drink Every Night" came on. It immediately perked my ear up and not just for because of my [...]

This one came from out of the blue (or if I'm being less economical with the truth via an email from a fan of the band…cheers dave) and immediately sat at the top of the pile. Details about Manwomanchild are scant save for the fact that they live in Chicago. They could also read he for that's what the press pics would tend to suggest. 'Reasons' is raw, adventurous and a wonderful reminder of an Irish band of yore called the Ultra Montanes who delivered a clutch of sparkling singles in the mid-nineties. It's the juxtaposition of the shiny chords [...]
