Many Mansions - Spirit Song In December of last year, just after reading Paulo Freire 's Pedagogy of the Oppressed and coming across A Declaration of Separation , I had the opportunity to submit a short film into a festival at the New School. Now I'm not a filmmaker by any means, but the process of putting these images together felt so uniquely cathartic that I just couldn't help but upload this to share. Not that any medium is ever comfortable, but props to everyone out there that gives new [...]

Reyner Banham, 1969 Many Mansions - Wearer of Masks “ He did not, and could not, understand the meaning of words apart from their context. Every word and every action of his was the manifestation of an activity unknown to him, which was his life. But his life, as he regarded it, had no meaning as a separate thing. It has a meaning only as part of a whole of which he was always conscious. ” - Leo Tolstoy , War and Peace [...]
Apologies for the missing a few days. LiveJournal is becoming an increasingly unreliable platform. Don't know if it's the pro-Kremlin hackers going after the anti-corruption blogger again, but it's a right pain in the Russian arse. Are Many Mansions named after the Sonny Sharrock track? I'd like to think they are. I know next to nothing about this Massachusetts band, but their druggy, ethereal take on South Africa acappella singing is something we can all get into. I mean, besides the fact that choral singing always makes you think they're some kind of [...]

Bug Eyes - Play Thing Bug Eyes - Mindless Slump Bug Eyes - Daily Dimension My mother always told me to eat my beets. They were good for me, she boasted. Back then I was reluctant to eat anything that wasn’t fruit-by-the-foot, though her words inexorably always rang true to this day. Now I’ve some maternal advice for all you FMLY readers. DIG IN TO THESE BEATS! Seriously, not only does the following music have a tendency to blow minds, these soft, smooth, yet [...]

If we were to answer our own 321 questions then 'many mansions' would be a good wish. Even better would be 'sparkly portal (from our sofa to Nandos)'. These astral travelling dudes have a split 12" with Truman Peyote out soon on The Whitehaus Family Record.

Truman Peyote and Many Mansions are two rising experimental bands from Jamaica Plain, Mass who have come together on the new split 12" Peaced Together . Truman Peyote, whose genre-shifting sound could be described as percussive, bombastic and glitchy, recently recorded a studio session for WMUA, of which you can download here . You can also obtain "New Wife, New Life", their most accessible track to date, over at partyends.com . Many Mansions on the other hand, have a tripped-out ethereality about them, as witnessed on the [...]
