In het kader van de lelijkste hoes van 2011 nomineer ik bij deze In Silence van de in Ierland geboren Marc Carroll: een smoezelig huis met Carroll die er ook niet al te weldadig gekleed bij zit. Dit lijken me...
A couple of tracks stand out on their own, but In Silence , as a whole, is an awkward hodgepodge of Irish folk music and sappy piano ballads. He's got Bob Dylan spewing accolades his way, and yet no one really knows about Marc Carroll. He just got signed to UK indie label One Little Indian. He's already set to rerelease his decade-long catalog (newly remastered and re-packaged) over the next couple of months. He's also toured all over the world...numerous times. And on top of that, he's written these 12 songs to add to the collection. Yet [...]

happy monday! i never thought i would be so happy to be at work as i am today. the wife worked two doubles this weekend so it was me and the raging lunatics all weekend. sure we had some fun, but damn if by about 5 pm yesterday, i had had enough. btw, dont ever google "skeeter eater" when your child is around, it aint pretty. in my defense though, he wanted to see pictures of the bugs that eat mosquitos and wanted to me to google that particular phrase. found this over the weekend, and as [...]
An Irishman in California, I can`t blame Marc Carroll for basing himself in more pleasing climates than his native Dublin. A superbly shot video for the latest release `What`s Left Of My Heart`. The vibrant colour is fantastically captured, a warming LA voyeuristic landscape with Marc`s moody composition playing the title theme. I get the impression the fourth album is running up to a huge promotional push. `Dust Of Rumour` is available in all audio formats along with this established songwriter`s extensive back catalogue. A wonderful voice with charm and sincerity. [...]

Acclaimed Dublin born and LA based singer and multi instrumentalist Marc Carroll releases a new single, "Always" , on High Noon Recordings, Monday 13th July, 2009. "Always", with its haunting melody and heartbreaking lyrics is the lead single from Marc's new album 'Dust of Rumour' , released 6th July. Its uplifting refrains and beautiful repetition are reminiscent of pioneering Krautrock band Neu and Marc plays all the instruments on the track. The new album, 'Dust of Rumour' is set to continue the critical acclaim that flowed following the release of Marc's previous [...]

I first featured Marc Carroll back in May , and this is the second single to be taken from his forthcoming album, Dust of Rumour . It's even better than the first, a proper summer feel-good track. Click here to view the embedded video.
"I have a punk ethic with folk roots. That spirit was put into me. Because I grew up in Dublin people always say, "Oh, U2 must have had a profound impact on you', but they didn't. I got into The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, The Undertones, Christy Moore and The Dubliners. I always felt Stiff Little Fingers and Luke Kelly said more about my life than any U2 record. Everything I do or ever have done has been very deeply rooted in the spirit and tradition of Folk music." Marc Carroll, March 2009 [...]
Here's an old mix that I made for a friend. It started out as an introduction to Alt Country, but turned into more of a mood mix than anything. It's still one of my favorite mixes that I've made. It's got some pretty sad bastard material on it, but I don't think of it as depressing [disclaimer: I have a huge appreciation for sad bastard music]. I think of it as a somewhat introspective Sunday afternoon listen. Hope you enjoy it. Let me know what you think. Jay Farrar - "Hanging on [...]

You know, I fucking hate iTunes. I hate i-fucking-Tunes for much the same reason that I hate fucking Macs in general. They are designed for people who don't fucking know how to use Explorer, for Christ's sake. Or Finder or whatever the bastard is called on a Mac. It drives me nuts. If you import photos using iPhoto then you cannot find those files in Finder. It's fucking ludicrous. You have to use the search function and then when it tells you where they are you can't actually reach that path conventionally through Finder, it will only show [...]

Dylanesque. Part Three. What makes a good cover version? Ask twenty people this question and you'll get a variety of replies - but there must be some kind of science to it. So what type of covers can you get? - 1. Well established (successful?) band/artist covering a big band/artist song 2. New band covering old (successful) song 3. Old band covering unsuccessful song Have you fallen asleep yet? 4. New band covering less well known song by established artist [...]
