A bit late for the Halloween season, but perfect for these damp, dark autumn nights. All songs feature a string section in one way or another. Haunting and [...]

I suppose it's abundantly clear by now that I am definitely, whole-heartedly and completely a lyrics person. This is not to say that I will listen to utter shite just because it has good words, but the lyrics are the most compelling part of the package to me. In fact, I would argue that I cannot listen to a song and disregard the lyrics. I can't help but take the words to heart and try to interpret them or make them fit my circumstances, my memories, wants, desires, fears. Whatever. You get the [...]

So I'm rushing this one out to go see Alice in Wonderless Land in a few minutes, but not to worry, plenty of wholesome goodness here. I keep hearing about some "Asian shit" from my musically inclined friends. Lullatone , a Japansese duo who play with toys. Yeah, sounds good huh? Same thing I though. See, the music is comprised mostly of those little Playskool keyboards and xylophones - which sounds corny, but I find it to be very soothing, in a kids running around your room kind of way. [...]

The Rapture Y'know, ever since I posted this afternoon, I had this urge in the back of my head that my daily job of a blogger wasn't completely fulfilled. So, I decided to hand over to you a couple more songs. Nice, I know. Not only that, but I'll hook you up with some links to blogs that have been tearin' it up lately. Good start to a long week, eh? surviving the golden age posted a killer mix, with a little bit of everything to suit [...]
While I've never seen a full episode of Grey's Anatomy (I get all the drama I need from Project Runway), I do know that they have great music on the show. A number of artists that I've featured or talked about on this site have made it onto the show's soundtrack and like "The O.C." even though the show might be unbearable to some at times, the music picks are pretty consistently good. For these reasons, I was really excited when I heard that a song from Sleeping At Last's new CD, Keep No Score , [...]

First Day of my Life.mp3 Mama Cass Elliot - Make [...]

I get to Los Angeles a few times a year. It's gotten me spoiled, now I can barely handle going to a store like FYE or Coconuts to buy music. $17 for a CD? Are you kidding me? In L.A. most of my music shopping happens in two stores, Amoeba Hollywood and Second Spin on Ventura Blvd. There also used to be Aron's which was a great store, but it recently closed. I think I am right, the Hollywood Amoeba definitely seems bigger than the Berkeley one. I [...]

Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor are Azure Ray . Their music is delicate, deeply emotional, and hauntingly personal. November and Sea of Doubts , in particular, are sung in almost a whisper, delivered directly to the ear of the listener. It is this soft quality of Azure Ray that makes their sound so touching and pure. mp3 If You Fall mp3 November mp3 Sea of Doubts [...]
