The members of the band Marillion aren't millionaires, but they do call themselves Marillionaires because of their profitable relationship with their family of fans. Singer Steve Hogarth talks about his new album collaboration with Porcupine Tree's Richard Barbieri, Marillion's groundbreaking business model, and the band's imminent first tour of North America since 2004. For a band whose music is often described as "spacey", it's entirely fitting that Marillion has a fan in the form of Neil Armstrong. The late science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke loved the British quartet, too. But it's Marillion's earthbound qualities -- the humanistic themes [...]

E - Part Four of H.A.T.E by Akribi So you thought the year was over? That there would be no more Sofia-songs to enjoy? Well you thought wrong. As a special treat we still have "E - Part Four of H.A.TE" coming up December 1st like an early Christmas gift. I'm so happy to tell you that the last EP of the H.A.T.E saga is being recorded by Swedish band Akribi , who is the first band in the project to have a female singer (and she's pretty damn [...]
Marillion's last essential album, and their subsequent decline.
Marillion's third live DVD release is much more than the simple acoustic concert document you might think.

Marillion Weekend 2009 captured in its entirety on this amazing three DVD set.
Anyone who was unfortunate enough to have well-meaning-yet-clueless relatives knows the feeling of disappointment. After weeks of anticipation, staring at the shiny boxes under the Christmas tree and wondering what's inside, you eagerly tear open your presents. What lies inside? GI Joes? Transformers?? A BB gun? A new Nintendo?!? Mind racing and adrenaline pumping, you [...]

Over a quarter of a century between these two performances, and two completely different interpretations of the song. For what it's worth I'm in a tiny minority of Marillion fans who think that the Fugazi album is one of their very best (only beaten by "Afraid Of Sunlight" and "Brave" in my opinion). It finished the annual fans' poll second bottom last year, with only the execrable "Radiation" behind it. I'd definitely put that down near the bottom too, with a couple of their most recent albums ("Somewhere Else" and "Less Is More") down there with it. Am [...]

Another one of those posts that should look vastly familiar to regulars. Wife's out with the girls sipping Strawberry Daiquiris and the kids are watching TV (and before long they'll be sleeping), so time to read mails, check a few blogs, scan twitter , hear some music and maybe even have a beer. Plus post a few bits and pieces of course! Easter is soon upon us, so blog post entries will be irregular for the next couple of weeks. Btw. This has to be one of the best songs [...]
It seems to be something we discover along the way when we make difficult decisions or life takes a turn for the worst.. less can be really better off in the end. In the case of Marillion, acoustically stripped back recordings, (less) a reinterpretation with a more intimate and relaxed sound, is better. The band selected songs, some of which they have never performed acoustically before, giving them new arrangements and a new edge. What Marillion have developed during the recording of this studio album is a real pop avant-garde experiment: to deprive the song of their original dress, to reconstruct them with [...]
With no support for tonight's gig Marillion came on early and did two short acoustic sets, which caught a few fans by surprise. But that didn't faze this hard working band; hardly imaginative in their set order – they played their latest album in its original tracklisting from start to finish. However, never ones to rest on their laurels - despite the fact that the new album may be recycling old songs, the tracks are all arranged in a new and inventive manner. As Steve Hogarth, the lead singer, gleefully declared "its great fun to look over my shoulder and [...]

I was originally going to wait until 2010 to upload a new layout but I grew tired, really tired, of the blackness that was the previous layout. Yikes, I'm a little indecisive this year; I've had 3 layouts or so. Anyways, let me know what you think of this new layout. Hopefully you dig. By the way, in similar fashion to every new layout I up, I ask that you please support WDPK in one way or another. Be it that you join the WDPK Facebook group, add me on Last.fm , or subscribe to my posts, [...]
