If you hadn't figured it out based on the fact that we've posted on him twice in one day, or by the interview we did with him last Summer, I am a big fan of Ben Cooper, the singer and songwriter who embraces a DIY aesthetic by making weird, gorgeous, haunting folk music that he [...]
Si ayer publicábamos un post donde 4 de los artistas de disco y filter house más punteros del momento regalaban tracks para felicitarnos las navidades y las respectivas fiestas (remember?), [....]

How to Dress Well 's edit of A. Silver Mt. Zion's God Bless Our Dead Marines hails the "less is more"-principle. While the original is over 11 minutes long, HTDW cuts it short and focuses on the "When the world is sick / Can't no one be well? / But I dreamt we was all beautiful and strong" part/lyrics. Recorded in Manchester during the riots, which may explain the touching, sad vibe. mp3 A Silver Mt. Zion - God Bless Our Dead Marines (HTDW 'Important' Edit)
I haven't paid much attention to bands coming out of the UK for the past few years but with bands like The Vaccines and Viva Brother starting to make a splash in the U.S., things are looking up for another British Invasion. Marines are a relatively new band that seems to follow the same path as their fellow countrymen - record and release a few singles, shoot a few videos, get the buzz going before work on a full-length has commenced. I do [...]

Our troops serve and protect us every single day. But how often to they hold court with Britney Spears? You may recall the viral video that surfaced back in April, featuring members of the US Marines in Afghanistan lip-syncing, dancing and getting their glow-stick on to Brit's chart-topping single "Hold It Against Me." Turns out the troops got to hang with the Femme Fatale herself recently. "So honored to meet the marines of HMLA-169 'Vipers' who made that amazing HIAM video," Spears tweeted as she posted this pic. God bless America.

Probably the single greatest thing to come out of Afghanistan since this video . The 266 Rein Marines bust out their moves in their own music video rendition of Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me." Saying this video is "winning" or "bi-winning" is an understatement. Britney's original video is now irrelevant, she should probably scrap it altogether and replace it with this. Who else agrees? Purchase: Britney Spears - Hold It Against Me This is how we win wars, folks.
This Britney Spears lipdub is said to have been put together by a group of U.S. Marines on deployment in Afghanistan.

266 rein & hmla169 - hold it against me (britney spears lip sync video) [britney herself called this video by the marines stationed in Afghanistan 'fierce'! we dig them too!] http://feeds.feedburner.com/Wo ngiesMusicWorld

Glow sticks, hand stands, emotive dancing and snazzy camera effects—it's all here in a video the VMM-266 (REIN) stationed in Afghanistan made set to Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me." Hell, some might even argue that it's far more entertaining than Brit's own video for the song! The Femme Fatale songstress herself posted a clip of the video on her Facebook wall last night and gushed, "I am in LOVE with this... I always knew our soldiers were fierce! Thanks for everything you guys do." [...]
Grateful Dead/Furthur bassist Phil Lesh has revealed his plan to create a music venue in Marin County called Terrapin Landing where he will host concerts while off the road. Here's Phil's take via the Furthur.net forum ... We're taking the first steps to make a long time dream- a permanent musical home - come true. We are purchasing a building in Marin, and plan on remodeling it to feel like an old barn; we 're calling it Terrapin Landing. We will continue with Furthur while making music at Terrapin Landing when we are at [...]

A perfect showcase of English folk talent exuded from the stunning Norwich venue. Support came from Coco's Lovers and Norwich based, Grenouilles , who opened the show to an atmosphere which was alive and buzzing. This show was Grenouilles' first with bass and drums, and being quite familiar with their music, I was surprised by how tight and coherent the merging of their previous sound with this new evolution was. Stand out track 'Bones', a fine example of Matthew Myles' lyrical talent, alongside Ally Rogers' operatic vocals and piercing violin, was made all [...]

All photos by Sébastien Dehesdin The queue for on-the-door tickets at London's Luminaire speaks volumes: it starts forming an hour before doors opens and continues around the block. It's comprised of gig-goers hoping to able to mourn the passing of one of London's most beloved live venues on the last-ever Friday night show the venue will hold. In the end, only seven lucky punters are let into the sold-out farewell bash, and they are treated to a fitting sendoff to a venue that - with its slightly unfashionable location, cosy interior [...]
I told you to buy your tickets quick and I hope you listened. The show sold out in Pre-sale and another show was added for March 5th which also sold out in a matter of days. CRAZY. Hope you got your tickets. Either show would be great, the February show comes with Sol and The Physics while the March show brings Grynch as company so either way you win. Here is the "My Oh My" video that was released this week in honor of Dave Niehaus. Props to Macklemore for getting this song and video out [...]
As a self-proclaimed (and fully realized) ginormous Mariner geek -been keeping track since the days of Alvin Davis, Spike Owen, and Jim Presley- the passing of legendary broadcaster/regional grandfather Dave Niehaus last month hit me pretty hard . I still think of him often and dread the day the season starts without him in the booth. I never met the old boy, but, like so many other baseball fans in the Northwest, he soundtracked my summers for close to three decades. He was family. . In what seems like a no-brainer [...]

"Why look for the living among the dead?" One of my favorite finds in the past six months comes by way of Springfield five-piece the Mariner . After the mostly random discovery some months ago, I have been keeping a close eye on the new band and their undertakings. When given the direct opportunity to post two new downloadable tracks here on the site, I leapt to oblige. Vocalist and guitar player Chase Castor channels the influence and vocal stylings of [...]

Men in uniform. And not just any uniform; Navy sailors in summer whites, Marines in dress blues, and UPS deliverymen in dress browns. These are a few of my favorite things. It's May. That means Fleet Week is just around the corner. And that means my inner military-ogler is hearing the call of duty. I support our troops. I've never been to NYC's Fleet Week, so I can't say for sure what it would be like. I've heard vicious rumors about how lowdown the week can be in the departments of skullduggery and quasi-anonymous [...]

Death Cab for Cutie will sing two "classic baseball" songs at today's Mariners opening day festivities at Safeco Field. Randy Johnson, the best pitcher in team history, will throw out the first pitch. If you're like me and aren't going to be at Safeco, you can watch the event live on the Mariners website , starting at 3pm PST. The pic was swiped from the Mariner's twitter stream . Yes, that is John Roderick of The Long Winters standing in for Chris Walla, at least at the sound check. Also new to fans this year: A [...]
