Mark Eitzel " For The People Who Wonder if AMC is Touring We are not. During the reunion in 2005 it was good to play with these guys again - though we had changed a lot in a decade. We made a great record - still we didn't have a Bruce Kaphan or a Tom Mallon to keep the music focused and cohesive (I'm certainly not the one to do that when my own songs are involved.) We toured a bit, played one show in 2006 [...]
Ten years of any music website is worth celebrating; especially so when it's a brilliant and essential one like Americana UK . And, blimey, they know how to celebrate: There's an event at the CUC in Liverpool on November 12th: We have curated a truly splendid line-up for what promises to be a very special celebration: Richmond Fontaine (Willy Vlautin and Dan Eccles acoustic set) Richard Buckner Mark Eitzel (American Music Club) Danny & the Champions of the World Plus other UK based americana acts including Redlands Palamino Co,Quiet Loner, Case Hardin, the [...]

eBay is a dange... hang on. How the fuck are you supposed to capitalise eBay at the start of a sentence? I suppose it has to be EBay doesn't it? It just looks wrong. ITunes? Damn these people and their stupid typography. I miss the days of Wilberforce Carmichael's Internet Music Emporium and the like. Anyhow, as I was saying, eBay is a fucking menace. I am looking up old record players on there at the moment, and have been distracted by even older mics. It's terrifying, particularly with their seductively low bids when things are a day [...]

Share | Brilliant version of the American Music Club track - The Thorn in My Side is Gone from the San Francisco LP . Mark Eiztel is is wonderful voice, the piano playing by Marc Capelle is great. Its good to see him have use of a grand piano and not the piano synth he played in Bristol last year. Getting Mark to give up [...]

Frank Yang Information is king when it comes to SxSW and scheduling, and inevitably there's a lot of bad info floating around. This I was reminded of on the very first morning of the 2011 edition of the festival when I headed down 6th St to try and start things off with English atmospheric-pop outfit Still Corners at Peckerheads, only to discover that the show I was looking for was either happening in 12 hours (the old AM vs PM gag), in 48 hours (according to some unofficial guides) or not at all [...]

Day 2 of ATP started well with Horse Guard Parade kicking things off at Centre Stage with a track that could have been written by Calexico (and a lead singer who, from where we were sitting, looked the spitting image of Joey Burns). They played a mixture of country-tinged indie and straightforward indie which was in places extremely catchy and in places extremely dull. I wandered off about 4 songs in, slightly bored, to find a WiFi connection, and returned for the final track, an upbeat number, that I wouldn't mind hearing again. This is not much of a description, [...]

When looking for an added emotional element for his new biopic, Vidal Sassoon The Movie , director Craig Teper turned to his music supervisor, David Spelman. "This score had to tell the audience that there was important stuff going on, not just fluff; that there's gravitas in Vidal Sassoon's life," Spelman stated in a recent press release. "Most filmmakers, in making a picture about hair, would've focused on the glamour and pop art and pretty girls. This film has all that, but with a more serious core, and the post-rock minimalist soundtrack helped communicate that." For this [...]

Magnetic Fields frontman Stephin Merritt couldn't ask for a more fitting venue than The Fox Oakland Theater. A renovation of a 1920s Orientalist fantasy replete with stylized Hindu gods and gold leaf everything, The Fox is a vision of a world that's either gone forever, vanishing as we speak, or never even existed in the first place. It's the architectural equivalent of a Stephin Merritt love song, and the space contributed mightily to the night's quiet and supremely literary mood. San Francisco hero Mark Eitzel got things started, baritone voice and dark lyrics [...]

Noise Pop is back and better than ever.

Mark Eitzel (American Music Club) has quietly released another in a string of interesting solo records. This one is only available from him direct from his website. AMC was one of the most important bands in my musical upbringing. The raw emotion and power of the songs and Mark's persona were at times overwhelming. As a result of my initial near infatuation I've tried to follow everything the band and Mark personally have ever done. I'm not a completest but I've tried my best to keep up. It's no surprise that the new [...]

Well this is a bit of a big week for Song, by Toad Records. Apart from the fact that the Loch Lomond/Builders & the Butchers split 123 is now officially available to buy, we also have the Meursault single launch on Saturday, with three of my favourite bands. We're releasing four A-sides on two 73 singles, on clear vinyl: new recordings of William Henry Miller Parts One and Two are going back to back with A Few Kind Words and the Dirt & the Roots from Pissing on Bonfires/Kissing With Tongues. Officially, neither single is being released until the first [...]

Michel de Broin - Black Whole Conference (2006) I'm sorry this isn't very subtle today. It sounds like taking off my shoe and throwing it at you. But I'm not mad. Surely you understand. Everything gets old. Mark Eitzel - I Live In This Place (mp3)
