New record by Lindstrom is out tomorrow! I was able to get an advanced copy of the record and its good. It is very different than his debut album Where you go I go to released four years ago. Think more synth, funk, sweeping opening film type stuff ("No Release") and almost progressive rock type sounds. "De Javu" still stands out as my favorite track on the record with perhaps "Hina" second. Regardless just like his last album its a journey from beginning to end that begs the listener to join along. Great stuff. Check out some remixes... [...]

Mark McGuire releases his umpteenth album of impressionistic guitar drone ambient. "Get Lost" might just be what many are considering to say to Mark McGuire and his relentless cavalcade of still life/guitar-centric/droney/amb ient/post-rock releases. Get Lost is his second 2011 release on Editions Mego, a label whose residency is prime real estate for the jet setting texturalist flock. McGuire is disciplined and cautious, making his discography, particularly the strummy guitars binding most pieces, a murky trek of selfsameness to waddle through for the manna he occasionally transubstantiates....
You guys, I can't do this anymore. I can't give you descriptions of all these albums and post 30 or 40 MP3s along the way. It just takes too much time and effort. I'll try to make this a little bit more than just a list, because I want it to look a tiny bit [...]

Some more sweet, unhurried waves of sound from a fine guitarist, however unfortunately named. But there's no juicing with this McGuire. Maybe it's because I'm so ensconced in my own digital recording fun, but I can't help smile out loud at a track-yourself-to-your-own-del ight situation like this. Some may say it's vanity, but who can't be happy with a world that lets us be our own orchestras. Mark McGuire - When You're Somewhere
Mark McGuire - Get Lost via slow-swords "Opening track of McGuire's newest, recently released on Editions Mego. I'll probably do a longer review later on, but for now, let yr eyes and ears feast on this gorgeous piece. Accompanying video of nature imagery fits nicely with what McGuire is conjuring up sonically - enjoy."
Mark McGuire's recordings from limited cassettes, CD-Rs, and singles find him using his guitar to make a double album that's both folksy and warm, as well as experimental and psychedelic. Mark McGuire makes guitar records. In this age of post-everything, it's almost endearing to find a musician, particularly one without much of a retroactive impulse, who is so readily attached to his chosen craft that his name and the instrument he plays are practically inseparable. Biases against McGuire may depend on one's biases against the guitar itself. Some, such as this writer, feel that the guitar's dialectical dominance in [...]

Records The holiday season is upon us, and as such, you are probably pondering what to get for that special someone. Might we suggest...a record? Over the next several weeks Frontier Psychiatrist will be providing you with numerous gift-giving options as we countdown our favorites of 2011. But, before we get there, allow us to go back in time and share with you our favorites from 2010 that, for some reason, we were unable to discuss a year ago. 10. Fucked Up - [...]

Guitar player for the electronic band Emeralds, Mark McGuire is not shy when it comes to solo work. Boasting a back catalogue of over 30 releases, the 24 year old shredder takes the perceived notions of guitar playing to a completely new level. Many of the sounds present on this record are made through loop and delay pedals, all translating through a guitar. It's always interesting when a musician finds innovative ways to utilize his or her instrument, this is a perfect example. On this solo record, Get Lost, we are introduced to some very vibrant material that stays with [...]

Tweetvaso link It may come as a bit of a surprise to folks that follow the blog, but I am actually going to write about current music. My new tendency to write about older releases opened up the door for me to just shoot from the hip about some lesser-known albums that I have come...

The last few posts were a bit abstract, which means we're overdue one of those feeble reminders that this is in fact a music blog. Or that it at least pretends to be one, when it isn't getting in a knot over entropy, dementia, childhood and the turn of the seasons in England. a bird can sing with a broken wing but not with a broken heart - Tommy McC I've been listening to a lot of [...]
Another week has ended. If you fellas didn't get your dicks wet, well that's unfortunate. If you ladies didn't go out and hit the bars and settle for less than you deserve, I find that equally disappointing. Either way, sucks for you. Although it could be worse…you could be one of those people who doesn't [...]

Obscured by a spattering of scaffolding that seems progressively more intent on obscuring the external grandiosity of Islington's Union Chapel as not only months but seasons flutter by, a solemnity customary of any ecclesial construction swamps its interior. Tonight, this particular house of worship has been infiltrated by the Barbican, as their annual Transcender series takes to incontrovertibly resplendent surrounds. Eat Your Own Ears listings replace hymnbooks in the backs of rigid pews; iPhones click impatiently; footsteps pitter and patter from lamentably understocked merch stand, to bar, to backbench. Tonight errs on the side of the spectacular in [...]
