I'm a little slow on the draw for it, I admit, but I am really starting to love the music of Jens Lekman . The handsome Swede makes melancholic, yet light-hearted music, usually of the folk variety. He's somewhere between Elliott Smith and The Magnetic Fields in spirit, but a talent that is uniquely his own. His next record, "Night Falls Over Kortedala" is due out this fall, but the first single, "Friday Night at the Drive-In Bingo" came out last week on iTunes and promises for another great set of work from Mr. Lekman. DOWNLOAD: Marmoset - Black Cab (Jens Lekman cover) (MP3) ( info ) All the Internet buzz lately surrounding new music by one of my favorite Swedes Jens Lekman has been getting me pretty excited to hear the new album ( Night Falls Over Kortedala - out October 9 on Secretly Canadian), and to see Jens again live. Now I'll have the chance again on October 27th @ Webster Hall - no tickets [...]
Michael Dracula "Please Don't Take This The Wrong Way" - Emily MacLaren never actually utters the title phrase in this song, but every other line sounds as though it's already been prefaced with that nerve-wracking disclaimer. I realize that we're supposed to identify with her, but I keep wondering how this guy is supposed to take getting dressed down like this? I take the title as a bit of a joke -- she totally knows that she's tearing some serious holes in this guy's ego, but she's sweetening it up, and trying very hard to convince herself [...]

Indie sports fans, here are my assembled thoughts on teams and their selections in this year's NFL Draft... Cleveland Browns - You gotta think the Browns are thrilled with how the draft went. Expected to take Brady Quinn with the number three overall pick, they end up getting the best offensive lineman in the draft and still got Quinn by trading up out of round two to number 22 in round one. They also got CB Eric Wright who will have a big impact on the defense. Considering they won't [...]
Secretly Canadian is actually up to release number 122 (The Horns of Happiness, natch) but their official 100th, apparently long-delayed, comes out next week. Long a wonderlabel, a source of generally uncommercial, often unhinged, and almost always top-notch music, they've scored some bona fide hits lately with Antony, and on a smaller scale Jens Lekman. (I've got a special place in my heart for
Secretly Canadian 100th album SC100 is a suspended-in-time, freeze-dried nugget of evolution from the humble beginnings everyone has. For those with a checklist of Hoosier Rock History, take note... sabas.jud.as-new indie music messiah

Nom de Guerre are over the top. Their music, their hair and even the lead singer's mustache (what's with that anyway?). Besides their new album, La La La, the band is also marketing their own line of fashion. La La La is available now on Dead Frog Records . Their are remixes up on the band's website. These guys just want to have fun, there's not a law against that is there? Slack Vs. Lame So Long Sister Video of "So Long [...]

The fantastic indie label Secretly Canadian has a few things to celebrate right now. They have recently rocked through their eleven-year anniversary, and will soon release their one hundredth album. They are now the first Indiana-based label to release one hundred titles, so a round of congratulations is totally in order. Well done! Album number one hundred, titled SC100 , looks to be a must have for any fan of artists on Secretly Canadian. It was a project three years in the making, where all artists who issued recordings from album number one (June Panic's [...]
