Kev's already made his apology and so here's mine, in the form of a light-on-words 40 song clear-out of everything I've been going to post but just haven't been able to come up with a suitable tenuous sexually ambiguous rant and pun post title for. And even with a 40 song post I still can't manage any sort of real variety. Sorry. Prints - Me & Ms Archer (MP3) Not sure what to call this other than electronic indie pop. Anyway, it's new and good and was apparently [...]

We're off for our Summer Vacation...and not a moment too soon! I really feel like I need a rest...this is the first break I've had since last year's vacation...2 weeks off in a year. (Note to self: need to sort that!) Still, as my Wife reminds me....she works 52 weeks a year, 365 days, 24/7....Now I know why I didn't put in for that job!!! This will probably be the last holiday we take as a family. The kids are growing up and my daughter [...]

Yeah, yeah, Echo Beach, blah, blah. We all know (and love) that track but this is something else altogether. Sounds like it should be included on one of those 'Dark Side of Disco' compilations that Eskimo were so happily issuing a few years ago. Rolling drums, a staccato twin guitar line and ghostly synth backing combined with the occasional scream thrown over the top make this track sound so contemporary it's unbelievable. Martha and the Muffins - These Dangerous Machines It's getting a re-release sometime [...]

it's been almost a year since i've been to doha, and i have had more caviar in the past 3 days than i've had in the past 3 years. i had it for three lunches, one dinner, and on two qatar airways flights. this gastronomic decadence was but one example of the vast oil and natural gas wealth that is rapidly transforming this tiny land jutting into the persian gulf like a big thumbs up. out of a total population of about a million people, only 20% are actual qataris. like other gulf countries, a majority of [...]
Over the past few days, I have been trying to learn the intriguing and all-consuming PhotoShop CS3. It is either wonderful or demented. I can't decide which yet. It doesn't help that I have a cold and I'm whacked out on cold meds and too little sleep. This playlist is the music that is keeping me sane while I get used to using a tablet & stylus instead of the trackpad I've been using for years. I have alot of people to thank for this music. Or to blame. How about I thank them and you blame them...? [...]

Factoid of the Day Peter Saville did the sleeve design for Martha and the Muffins debut album, 'Metro Music'. Yep, that Peter Saville . Posted mp3 of the day Best track from the aforementioned Metro Music : Martha and the Muffins - Saigon mp3 Yep, even better than 'Echo Beach'. According to the good people at the 5P blog, 'Saigon' [...]

When Phobos slips behind the darkness of the shadow of Mars, Moon-goths, Spectres from Saturn's rings, No-Wave Goblins of Venus and Ice gargoyles of Pluto converge on the white castle nestled between two deep craters. This castle has been here for millions of years, sending rhythmic pulses from it cavernous underground passages to those in the know who are tuned to its frequencies. Round the back of the castle is a pristine green crystal and pink cushioned archway that leads into a long tunnel lined intermitently with red neon tubes that gradually get closer to each [...]
echo beach is my favourite song of all time, really! originally written by mark gane and performed by martha and the muffins, one of canada's best new wave acts. they're still performing, kind of. i heard one of the marthas works as a professor in toronto now. anyhow, the muffins' version is an absolutely perfect new wave song, but here's a more electronic toyah remake (also really great) and a remixed version from 2006 also. there's a trance version i found, but it's really awful, so i'll [...]

The weekly Throwback Thursday usually hits on Thursday but with vacation and business travel my schedule has been a little crazy. So, now that I'm settled back at SVB world headquarters, I figured I'd bust out Throwback Thursday v.4 - and this time around we focus on 1980 Truth is, 1980 actually began in 1977/78. Corporate rock ruled. Disco was dead. The Clash, The Heads and punk kept us honest and hopeful. Prince was on his way to breaking out. Kurtis Blow (above) rocked us with "The Breaks," Rush scored a [...]
