We've hooked up with Green Man Festival for our 2011 Advent Calendar. Expect a new session every day from one of the artists that performed at Green Man Festival this year. Yesterday we had the wonderful Moddi performing 'Aden' and today we have Martin Carr performing 'No Money In My Pocket'. Dandelion Radio Regular readers to the blog will know how much the Devil misses the late, great John Peel. I'm therefore overjoyed to announce that Dandelion Radio , the online station at www.dandelionradio.com run by volunteers to keep the Peel flame burning, have just released a free compilation of highlights of their first five years. [...]

Time's whipping by so fast that I have to start planning out these last weeks of 2009 on CTRR. Last year, there were several festive year-end features on the old yuletide blog (groan if you must), including my Year-End Round-Up weekly mixes , the countdown of my Top 40 albums of the year , the Christmas weekly mix , and the New Year's Eve party mix . And I still have to work in my Day of 200 songs before all of this kicks off. This week's mix will be a winter one despite [...]

As promised in my last post about the Manics show in Toronto, one of this week's mixes will be Manics-themed. It couldn't just be a bunch of Manics album tracks, nor even a bunch of b-sides (frankly, I do enough of those in other mixes and posts, and that would all be too easy). Since they are one of the most dynamic live bands in the world, this mix is comprised of tracks from various bootlegs of Manics gigs. I have nowhere near the amount of bootlegs other Manics fans have, but I delved into what I did have and [...]

The Boo Radleysin nokkamies ja pääasiallinen säveltäjä Martin Carr ei jäänyt lepäämään laakereilleen yhtyeen hajottua vuonna 1999. Carr julkaisi vuosien 2000-2006 välisenä aikana bravecaptain -nimikkeellä kuusi suhteellisen kokeellista ja eri tyylejä yhdistelevää levyä, jotka eivät saavuttaneet sen suurempaa suosiota. Viimeisin levy, Distractions , on edelleen jaossa ilmaiseksi . Hiljattain ilmestynyt Carrin ensimmäinen omalla nimellä julkaistu soololevy Ye Gods (and little fishes) on kaiken kaikkiaan positiivinen yllätys. Päämäärättömän kokeilun sijaan Carr on muistanut keskittyä vahvuuksiinsa: vahvoihin melodioihin ja itse kappaleisiin. Perinteisiin nojautuvalla levyllä voi kuulla kaikuja niin The Boo Radleysin [...]

MySpace Though of no relevance whatsoever to the contents of the actual post, some discussion emerged in the comments one of last week's posts wherein the ongoing V Fest -spotting games turned to the possibility of Blur possibly making an appearance at the Ontario edition, unofficially set to happen August 29 and 30 in Burl's Creek near Orillia. As much as I'd like that to happen - they're on a very short list of acts who could get me to venture up that way and endure all the logistical joys that go [...]

Big shout to Zwolf for schooling us on the pathmusick free MP3 label for crazy glitched up technoish experimental music. Have to say though, for us his stuff stands headbutt and shoulder charge above the rest. Have a few tracks which we're sitting tight on for the moment, including killer collaborations with Welsh Hip-hop legend Junior Disprol from Dead Residents and Martin Carr from the Boo Radleys (aka Brave [...]

It's been nearly ten years since the Boo Radleys decided to call it a day. Since then Martin Carr , who wrote all of the Boo Radleys' songs including the one that this blog is named for, has been releasing records under the moniker of Brave Captain . The songs and their delivery have never been too much of a departure from the Boo Radleys with the only noticeable difference being the absence of Sice who could really hit those high notes. Carr's voice isn't as stiking as Sice's but he has [...]
It's not a new idea, but the involvement of Steve Pankhurst has helped generate some interest in Bandstocks . Pankhurst was a founder of Friends Reunited, the service which lets you find out where the people you went to school with are now ("on Facebook", normally) and he's put some of the cash he got offloading the site to ITV into the new scheme. It's another one of those places where bands can appeal to fans to pay the costs of producing an album up front: Bandstocks will let the public buy a stake in [...]
