I really love covers, so I couldn't resist this week's theme. Don't have much time, so this will be brief, but I wanted to share a couple of my favorites. First, there's "I Only Have Eyes For You" by Jamie Cullum. I just think his style is so unique and this song is incredibly sexy. Download it here. Buy Catching Tales here. Next, I've got a cover from one of my favorite bands ever, Hanson. I know they get a bad rap because of MMMBop, but they really are talented musicians. [...]

You may have noticed that my posting regimen has been anything but regimented of late. This is because my job sucks. But since I no longer care about it, you can more or less expect a return to form. "So what," you ask aloud? Good question. At the very least, I'll try to keep you coming back with more offerings of some decent-to-pretty good music. Tons of notable new shit out there since we last spoke, most of which has by now had its blood drained by a pesky swarm of blog mosquitos. So I will [...]

Premium New England Artist releases a new album I have been a fan of Martin Sexton since the mid-Nineties thanks to a well-received tip from an old friend. His debut album "Black Sheep" (1996) is one of the most underrated indie records of all time. (Hint, hint) Since then I have attended sixteen of his shows throughout New England since then. To put things in perspective, I am not easily impressed and have met literally hundreds of musicians. I was speechless, however, when I ran [...]

I just did a podcast with Bun. We figured since we offer all of these new media services through our business that we ought to implement them for ourselves too. Today we talked about my favorite new software applications. QuickSilver , Peel & eMusic (which is really not an application but I use it every day so it seems like one anyway) I talk kind of slow but I don't thiink it bothers anyone except me. I talked a little about Red Record Box since Peel has to do with Music Blogs. If [...]

I was so, so, so excited about Martin's new album. But after a few listens, I'm underwhelmed. Everything that I love about Marty is on the album: great vocals, nice songs, grooves galore. Yet there doesn't seem to be much growth from his previous albums. Maybe I'm wrong. But I do like the song below. Happy Bonus live cut from Seeds ~ Will It Go Round In Circles (live) Further Study: website myspace [...]

I tried to throw together some songs with either "glory" or "hour" in the title (with a little Jem thrown in for good measure). Martine Sexton ~ Glory Bound (one of my all-time favs) Serena Ryder ~ Stay for an Hour (nice pipes) Branches ~ Sixteen Hours to Georgia (alt-country-rock-ish) Public Enemy ~ Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos (a classic) Tricky ~ Black Steel (cover of above) Jem ~ 24 (cinematic) Julius [...]
We've been big fans of singer-songwriter Martin Sexton since his earliest days as a folkie from the Boston music scene. But we knew then that Martin was more than just your typical folk singer - he's a soul singer armed with an acoustic guitar that owes as much to the folk legends as he does to Howlin' Wolf, Willie Dixon, Al Green and Billy Preston (whose classic "Will It Go Round In Circles"

School of Rock was on cable over the weekend, right about the time I started listening to Martin Sexton's new album Seeds , and I couldn't help but make a comparison. Powerful, funky soul-pop instead of face-melting rock, a band of adults (presumably) instead of Dewey's / Ned's 10 year olds — well, maybe that which draws Martin Sexton and Jack Black together in my mind is simply a similar physical appearance. Oh yeah, and total sincerity in expressing the joy of music. The five tracks below, from five different albums, are awesomely and gloriously [...]

Cincinnati 13, Baltimore 7 Houshamazilli ("Championship!" - Sorry, that just doesn't get old for me.) came up big on a 40-yard flea flicker trick play and helped get the Bengals back into their divisional playoff mix. The Bengals O did just enough against the tough Baltimore D and the Bengals defense has also been pretty great of late. They've allowed only seven points in their last two games. Baltimore better be able to generate more offense against teams like the Bengals, Chargers & Colts or they won't make it far in [...]

I’ve never made a mix that tried to capture the feeling of Autumn, my favorite season. Until now! Just in time for tomorrow's equinox. I tried to use songs that either have fall lyrics, sound like fall, or were I purchased in the fall. Hope you enjoy. 1. Smashing Pumpkins ~ Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (I like to start with instrumentals and this is a good one off a great double album released in October 1995) 2. [...]
