James Blake is perhaps the most established artist in the genre of post-step. Although he himself is of Caucasian descent, his music filters music of Black origins, with dub, dubstep and the tinkering snares of drum and bass which can all be found woven into his late night music. It's a style that feels born from the Internet generation, transcending genres and particularly race, blurring the lines between groups and influences. Today's recommendation is an exciting Black solo artist, but when we completed a short phone interview with her this week we asked her who her influences were. Her answer? [...]

Miss Mary J Blige dropped not one, but two singles this week. The song 25/8 (which leaked back in August) & Mr. Wrong (Ft. Drake ). The 25/8 song is pretty bad ass throw back to old school Mary. The Mr. Wrong is entirely awful until Drake drops off the track, then it turns into a Mary gem. I don't really understand the campaign behind all of this, but I do love me some Mary... xx Listen & watch below:

As it turns out, Mary J. Blige totally can break the space-time continuum as she fits . In the music video for "25/83, Ms. Blige claims she needs "another hour in the day/ so I can love you 25/8". And as evidenced by the clip's all-day singing and dancing marathon, we think she's simultaneously entertained and tossed the rules of the Universe aside to give her love just that. Lesson learned: never question Mary J. Blige. My Life II: The Journey Continues (Act 1) [...]

Mary J Blige is, rightfully, an R&B deity – for more than 20 years, the New York singer has been delivering soul-inflected slow jams, intoxicating even her most jaded listeners with that singular powerhouse voice. She released My Life in 1994 and is just now getting around to the sequel, My Life II: The Journey Continues (Act 1) . We've come to learn that a Mary J. / Drake pairing isn't always a guaranteed keeper. While they're "Fancy" (which found the Queen of Hip Hop-Soul supporting in sampled form on the original , then providing a more extended cameo on the remix ) ended up drawing acclaim as one of Thank Me Later 's better offerings, Blige's Drizzy-assisted "The One" (from her 2009 release Stronger With Each Tear ) was a major dud, a club-focused, "Auto-Tune & B" [...]
