The BREUMM / Decorate.Decorate. concert last night was pretty OK, and it was especially interesting watching the new (?) "version" of BREUMM . Compared to the concert last year, this was a somewhat (and surprisingly) nosier edition with Jonas refusing to let his guitar rest during the set. Here's an older clip of Jonas doing an acoustic performance of Ingen Verdens Ting , which so far is my favorite track of 2008. [...]
Marybell Katastrophy "Slabiak" - There are moments in "Slabiak" that are so fully saturated with anxiety that the song pushes up to the edge of listenability. Those moments most often come just seconds before the shift into the chorus, a section that is no less agitated, but offers some sort of release in the form of an electronically manipulated vocal part that rises into an eerie high note that comes close to the sound of Karin Dreijer Andersson on the Knife's Silent Shout album. Nevertheless, there's not much room in the piece for feelings of relief [...]
Listening to new music from Montys Loco and Marybell Katastrophy has me thinking that there's some sort of covert industrial revolution going on. It's not explicit, but all of these ladies put out the same dark, metallic vibe that I associate with that genre. Few (if any) guitars, lots of clanging percussion, etc. Montys Loco goes at in a more bare-bones sorta way ala Babyland (oh, if ever the two should meet!) while Marybell Katastrophy is far more electronically composed, but the similarities are definitely there. Beim Vernehmen der ersten Töne drängte sich sofort Björk in den Assoziationscortex, wobei diese schnell eine Reihe von anderen Bands Platz machen musste. Richtig passen tut da gar nichts zu dem, was die beiden Däninen, Marie Højlund (ex Tiger Tunes), Maria Timm (ex The Broken Beats) und der Qutenmann Emil Thomsen (Schweppenhäuser) da so für Musik produzieren. Danske Marybell Katastrophy har fået en masse opmærksomhed på henholdsvis Spot- og Roskilde Festivalen i år. En masse pladeselskaber har derfor ønsket at signe dem, men trioen har afvist alle tilbud, og i stedet udsendt This Is The One i samarbejde med deres management, Merger, for at gøre tingene på deres helt egne præmisser. Ligeledes har bandet fulgt Radioheads spor, og lagt denne debut-EP ud på deres website , hvor man selv kan bestemme prisen. Dog udkommer EP'en tilmed på vinyl i et begrænset oplag på 500, hvor hvert eksemplar unikt er dekoreret af venner [...]
