Yeah, I'm sneaking away from the TV-watching family to post some music for you, my dear readers! Holidays are a mellow affair by me... some chit chat, go to the movies, eat a bunch of food that's really bad for you, play with the dog. But there's NO MUSIC, aaack! So I'm getting my fix and giving you one too, xoxo These all came in my inbox in the past week or so: Yeah, this is just gorgeous and I regret that I couldn't get to it until now! You all know how I love [...]

Stefano Giovannini Depending on how familiar you are with early-'90s American college rock, Gramercy Arms' resume will either read impressively or anonymously. Led by former Dambuilders honcho Dave Derby, the New York-based outfit also boasts drummer Kevin March (also Dambuilders and the final lineup of Guided By Voices ), guitarist Sean Eden (of the late, loved Luna ), guitarist Hilken Mancini (Boston power-poppers Fuzzy) and bassist Rainy Orteca (also of Joan As Policewoman , who aren't circa '90s but whose Joan Wasser was also in the Dambuilders). So to [...]
So I've done what I can to avoid posting any Christmas/Holiday songs here, leaving it mainly to the experts such as the good folks over at Donewaiting and their Christmas blog . This isn't out of any particular hate for seasonal music or anything, but anyway, I'm heading out on the road tomorrow to visit the fam and thought I'd leave a couple Christmas tracks for you to enjoy. Mascott + Gramercy Arms - " This Christmastime " Doug Keith - [...]

I'm sure many of you are finishing up work and getting ready for the holidays (and hopefully have some time off as well). This is one of my favorite times of the year. It's always a very nostalgic experience for me with Christmas lights everywhere, non-stop holiday music on the radio and a packed social schedule to meet with friends and re-connect with family members. A perfect song for the nostalgia of the season is Gramercy Arms' folky "This Christmastime" that features the sweet, delicate vocals from Mascott's Kendall Jane Meade. New York's Gramercy [...]

Christmas is coming and kids are having fun (so said the chorus of my fifth grade play " Shaping Up Santa ," for which I still know all the words and thankfully no longer have to wear the green elf costume). I have a love/hate relationship with this time of year because of the overabundance of really bad, synthy, jingly, repetitive Christmas music that bombards me at every pass. But tonight I was listening to my friend Dainon 's superb radio show out of Salt Lake City and he filled two and a half [...]

It's hard to believe it's time for the forth annual Christmas mix. When I'd first started compiling them, I'd see the occasional holiday song collection here and there. Now, bloggers start posting seasonal tunes in late November right up to December 25th. I prefer to save it for one collection of the best I've come across over the last twelve months - once this is posted, work starts on next year's mix. A good compilation is evocative of the holiday, each song should resonate experiences of past seasons, I believe this one does just that - enjoy! [...]

My efforts, for the most part, are to always bring you new music, more choices, and of course great talent. So even when sprinkled oldies hit the lists, we've got rising stars here with their own holiday brilliance to share. I think you'll particularly enjoy the track from Emery. Malcolm Middleton - " Burst Noel " (mp3) Mascott & Gramercy Arms - " This Christmastime " (mp3) Favours for Soldiers - " Hanging From The Christmas Tree " (mp3) Brenda Lee - " I'm Gonna Lasso Santa Claus " (mp3) [...]

Is that a baby in your hand or are you just real unhappy to see me? I think that one of my New Year's resolutions for QBiM is not to allow too much "music news" filler to clog my posts, and focus more on the good stuff. I still have a few weeks before 2009 rolls in, though, so forgive me this "news" post, but, come on-it's Morrissey ! How could I not mention this? The Moz camp has been hinting at a new album for some [...]

Christmas Alone take me anywhere i go white trees and mistletoe i'm sorry i was wrong and i can't believe he's gone daddy i'm coming home this christmastime I wrote about Mascott 's beautiful music and her latest album Art Project last month . I just got this Christmas collaboration done with Gramercy Arms today and had to share. Not the most upbeat holiday song, but enjoy! Mascott [...]
