Though he hasn't released a studio album since 2010, Hawaiian "soft rock" singer-songwriter Jack Johnson has been an unquestionable darling of the last decade, topping the college charts with catchy, easy-going folkpop lullabies, and winning praise for his work organizing the jam and surf communities through music and political action. And the odds are good that you're familiar with at least some of his work; after all, his soundtrack for the 2006 film Curious George garnered two Grammy nominations, and became the first soundtrack for an animated film to top the Billboard 200 since Pocahontas; his [...]

Mason Jennings is just one of those dudes I love too much, I can't post just one song and say that's enough. This one's from his relatively recent album, Blood Of Man . 20092s recent, right? Eh, who cares. This is probably one of my ideal songs that I could listen to forever and not get tired of. It starts off haunting, and just gets more haunting, and STOP READING AND JUST LISTEN, DAMN YOU! Sing Out by Mason Jennings on Grooveshark
The Social Blend crew and I are back again with our underrated and obscure music podcast. Its a few weeks late since I almost forgot to post it after my site was hacked a few weeks back. Mason Jennings is another fella that I'm a big fan of. He's got a damned soulful voice that would make a weaker, perhaps drunk man, cry. His music is usually pretty acoustic and chilled out, though the lyrics tend to be on the more depressing side so it might not be the ideal bedtime music. It would probably be helpful with the ladies, so in that sense, it may indeed be ideal for bedtime. I don't know any of those kind, sensitive ladies, so it won't do me any good! But for those of you do, play this song and [...]

In one year from today I will be getting married to a very nice woman. The party will be in the mountains at a heli-skiing lodge (pictured above). Here are a few songs that are leading the way out of the gates for our official wedding theme song. I probably won't get my way. 1. John Prine & Iris Dement - In Spite of Ourselves [...]

Up until compiling this list, I was pretty sure 2011 was not a fantastic year for music. Well, I may have been completely wrong. There might not have been giant releases from the most prominent artists of our generation, but this is only because there are no more prominent artists of our generation. The internet and availability of music has made anybody a contender for making a great record, and I believe it has become a complete toss up as to who makes a future classic in any given year. Relax, for this is a good thing. Here's my big [...]
So this is the new year And I have no resolutions For self assigned penance For problems with easy solutions - Death Cab for Cutie

Mason Jennings is my generation's answer to Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Leonard Cohen all rolled into one. His voice is distinctively one of a kind, his lyrics are intimate yet witty, and his songwriting is absolutely brilliant. From the crowd pleasing “Your New Man” to the hauntingly gorgeous “The Field,” Mason continues to create remarkable music that is celebrated by critics and fans alike. His latest release, the aptly titled Minnesota is no exception. It’s his most personal record to date, and yet another stunning masterpiece [...]
