It's gonna be a good weekend. Zak Downtown finally dropped his new mixtape Downtown Delinquents , and it's bumpin. The tape features 10 original tracks produced by DJ Fresh Direct among other NY producers. There are features from the likes Hoodie Allen, Murda Mook, and UK pop/hip-hop artist Master Shortie. While I guess you could categorize the mixtape as "rap," it's so heavily influenced by electronic music that categorization is pointless; I love it. To prove my point about the electronic influence, just check out "Good Feeling," which is non-coincidentally my fav track in [...]
Master Shortie tackles the classic "This Way" instrumental that Kanye West served up for the Dilated Peoples back in '04 in the latest offering from his new mixtape. Shortie has never been the hardest MC in the UK but he definitely makes up for it with his flow. Listen below and see for yourself. Studying Abroad coming soon. Master Shortie has been quiet for a long, long while. He's one of those artists who I have been a quiet fan of for a long, long, while though. Almost two years ago to the day I reviewed his debut album on these boards and that's how long we've been without any new material from the kid. He's coming back now though with a new mixtape entitled Studying Abroad . A few weeks back he dropped the video for the first track off there. Catch that after the jump. Just now via his Twitter , [...]
First single from London's Master Shortie's upcoming 'Studying Abroad' mixtape which is hosted by DJ Benz i. Master Shortie spent some time in New York recording and producing tracks for the new mixtape which features appearances from Bruno Mars , Shwayze , The Cataracs , Deans list , Ed Sheeran , Bluey Robinson and Sway to name a few.

"Let's take it back to the 80's, dirty dancing, Patrick Swayze" Let's be honest, his stage name is dumb as hale. That being said, Master Shortie 's 'Bringing It Back' is full of cheesy goodness. As anyone who knows me will testify, I'm pretty much a slut for references to the 80's and this track is filled to the brim with them. I guess this chap proves that you really can't just judge the proverbial book by its cover. [...]
THE REMIXES - PART 8 - THE KNOCKS This week The Knocks release, on Heavy Roc Records , their own original work with the single Blackout . The last day of SXSW was spent running all over Downtown Austin showcase hopping after catching Les Savy Fav 's insane late night set at Galaxy Room the night before. I started off my day at the Strangers in Stereo launch party at Elysium (see upcoming post for more info.) I then hopped over to Dirty Boots at Wave Bar for Rumspringa (canceled), One Night Only and Master Shortie before going [...]

While desperately sad at the imminent closure of BBC 6 Music (everyone seems to be handling BBC Asian's demise much better) - and the absence of a Sunday night spent listening to weird and wonderful Mexican flute rock or Japanese tango, of a radio station daring enough to play daring new music, and of non-cringeworthy live sets - SOIWT is a little over email petitions collecting signatures. Praise be for Proud , then. The Camden stables venue has organised an impromptu 'Save 6 Music' night tomorrow (Wednesday), with live performances from the excellent Kitty, Daisy & Lewis [...]
Smokey Barz has got the UK Grime Scene on lock with his F64 shit. It seems everyone wants to do one now to showcase any new flows they got. I posted Chimpunks not too long ago; that shit was impressive. Master Shortie jumped on it recently. I dont care if people think he's wack and can't spit. He came hard. So every November, in order to raise awareness about Prostate Cancer, chaps (and some women) across the land take part in Movember , which is an event where the name of the game is to grow the biggest/bushiest/most bizarre mustache. Now, of course, anyone* can grow a mustache, but not anyone can get the cream of the UK's urban artists to champion it. So enter one of twitter's most vocal mustachioed DJs, DJ Grind , who's managed to get some jokes video clips from the likes of Mistajam, Dappy N-Dubz and Master Shortie to [...]

When the BBC Sound of 2009 anointed Master Shortie's debut LP came and went with little fanfare earlier this year, most suspected that there just wasn't room for another kodachrome decked pop hip hopper here stateside. Top 40 radio only just tapped into Cudi, and four years since his debut STILL has no idea what to do with Lupe Fiasco- it just wasn't time. I however, am of the school of thought that nobody's going to buy the authenticity of a track called "Dance Like a White Boy" when it's being performed by a [...]

So why not send our former intern, Jenny Booth, to a festival in the UK, right? Heck, if it helps her with a press pass, we feel pretty damn good about it. -Ed. Having studied my degree in Cardiff—and always longed for a music festival on my doorstep—it was downright mean of Swn Fest's organizers to start it up the year I left school. Three years on, though, and I'm finally in the right place at the right time—if a little apprehensive as to how one of the world's smallest capital cities will rival last months [...]

Our pals over at Heavy Roc Music are hard at work on Samuel 's debut album, even tripping out to L.A. for an extended period to work some of the production out. And yet, the Knocks have managed to put together a few interesting remixes of Ellie Goulding , Master Shortie and the Jackson 5 over the last month or so. There's a lot to like here; each track shows a different side of the duo, from dreamy pop to R&B to synth-backed hip-hop. I've been really enjoying the [...]
