Which of these things do young girls prefer: Justin Bieber, or hearing themselves scream about how much they love Justin Bieber? It can be hard to tell in most fan-recorded videos of his concerts, and there was certainly no exception on Saturday night when the basketball whiz showed up to honor vocal coach Jan Smith as she was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall Of Fame. As an homage, he sang hits by two of her star clients: Usher's "You Got It Bad" and Matchbox Twenty's "3 AM," before singing one by an even bigger artist [...]

Justin Bieber - Wireimage Seeing Justin Bieber perform a few covers songs is nothing new. That's the way he got his start. Even still, it's nice to see how the Biebs puts his spin on songs from other artists. He did just that at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame Awards held Saturday night (September 17). To honor his vocal coach, Jan Smith , who was inducted into the hall of fame, Biebs performed an acoustic medley of songs from her clients, like "3 A.M." from the Rob Thomas -led [...]

Tweet For folks who love alt-country music, or go out to see live bands in the Dallas area, this band needs no introduction. They've been going strong since 1994, when they released their first album "Hitchhike To Rhome". That's not a spelling error, it's a little Texan town outside the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, population 1967. Before you write them off simply for being a Texas country band, note that they've had songs on the TV show Scrubs, they have fans like Rob Thomas (Matchbox [...]
Scoundrels are the latest addition for recently revived blues label 'Blue Horizon'. Their trademark sound is bluesy American rock, think Matchbox Twenty but with a palpable portion of southern comfort and soul. Title track 'Sniff It Up' quickly commands attention acting as a ballsy and confident rock opener whereas 'Hangman's Lament' provides a more narrative nod [...]

Since I started this blog, I often gave a shout-out to my favourite musical folk on their birthdays. Just a little note and my song of choice to show all my readers (all three of you...) who I love. Because I've been so busy of late, I've forgotten some. I am sure all these rich, famous musicians feel very sad and unappreciated as a result of this, my blog being oh so important to them (!), so here are those recently forgotten: Rob Thomas The lovely Rob Thomas turned [...]

Filed under: News , New Music Anyone who is familiar with Rob Thomas knows that he wears both hats as the frontman of Matchbox Twenty and as a solo artist. But he will also always be known for his other role as a songwriter and a collaborator with Carlos Santana on the latter's hit 'Smooth.' Now, Thomas has partnered with the guitar great again on the Cream classic 'Sunshine of Your Love,' which will be on Santana 's upcoming album. [...]

Matchbox 20 - 3 AM buy Yourself Or Someone Like You (1996) It never gets old... especially hanging out with the people you went through 1996 with.

Artist: Matchbox 20 Album: Mad Season Release Date: May 23, 2000 Mad Season was another early addition to my now humongous music collection, one of those discs I burned a hole in (back in the days before iPods ruled the Earth). Looking back, it's pretty obvious this was one I bought solely because I dug singles "If You're Gone" and "Bent". Don't get me wrong; Mad Season has some real gems beyond the ubiquitous singles. The bittersweet farewell of "Rest Stop" marks how good a storyteller [...]

'I hope you guys don't mind, I completely tried to rip you off." -- Rob Thomas In a recent interview , the Matchbox Twenty frontman admitted that he shamelessly lifted the guitar riff of INXS 's 'Need You Tonight' for 'Give Me the Meltdown' -- a single from his new solo album . Earlier this week, the blonde pop duo Aly & AJ announced that they had changed their name to 78violet . ("Fyi.....u pronounce #78violet as seventy eight violet:)," they helpfully added.) The sisters are calling their renaming "an exciting new beginning," although given that they've already achieved some chart success under their old name, one wonders if this change might hurt their fledgling pop career more than it helps. As a way to assist these young ladies through this crucial stage in their career, Idolator presents a few stories of artists who changed their names-and how their careers fared once [...]

You'd think after over a decade as the leader of Matchbox Twenty, a songwriting credit on the most clutch guest appearance on a song in ages, and a perfectly quality solo debut that churned out its share of hits too, Rob Thomas wouldn't have a hard time crafting songs that can climb the charts like a five-year old on the jungle gym. In all likelihood Thomas still has that touch. But on Cradlesong Rob Thomas has a different agenda. In lieu of the small army of hits Thomas could have penned in his sleep, Cradlesong presents [...]

So this is coming a little later than I was hoping, but nonetheless, here 'tis, a lovely album with which to end a long day. I think Matchbox Twenty's success in the 90s is a fairly unique occurrence. When Yourself or Someone Like You came out it was praised for successfully navigating the waters of a period of mainstream music where alternative music was still in vogue to some degree (though not in the extreme sense of grunge), while at the same time more adult-friendly pop and rock were starting to reclaim the spotlight. Today if [...]
