Mates of State are heading back out on the road in December for a short tour. The venues are a little smaller than usual for the band, and it appears these will all be duo shows (when I read this, I was surprised to hear that Mates of State had expanded beyond duo-status; the last time I recall seeing them live, they played as a duo). For fans like me who haven't seen them in years, this is a welcome treat to hear! Brooklyners Bogan Via continue to craft their love-sick synth slow jams on latest single, "TES". "Strange how it kills," mourns singer Madeleine Miller as an arrangement of synthesizer stabs and bass unfolds like a chemically compounded version of Beach House . Husband-and-wife duo Mates of State made a stop in Los Angeles last week for two shows at The Echo and to celebrate their 5 year anniversary (congrats you crazy kids) on Friday and Saturday night in support of their latest release "Crushes". The new album is a compilation of covers, but the performance was full of older favorites from previous albums. Their set was bubbly and sweet.
