The pairing of Mates of State and Generationals guarantees hooks and harmony galore—an abundant display of how to make pop songs shine. Both bands are built around a duo and the ever-present interplay between musical counterparts. In Mates of State, it's husband-wife duo Jason Hammel and Kori Gardner, while Generationals offer Grant Widmer and Ted Joyner, a songwriting duo with a friendship
The Connecticut-based Mates of State celebrate their sixth full-length entitled Mountaintops with a new video for the song Sway. The domesticated duo has been churning out thoughtful catchy indie pop for well over a decade, and continues to do so with yet another quality release. While the music is palatable for just about any audience, the video on the other hand is flat out weird, as the protagonist warps into different dimension and proceeds to have a romantic fling with Asparagus Man. I don't know man, just see it for yourself...

Husband-and-wife duo Mates of State put out a new music video earlier this week for "Sway".
I'll have a full review of last night's Mates of State & Generationals show in the Tucson Weekly on Thursday, but today I have to highlight "Palomino," the first song on Mates of State's new album, Mountaintops. "Palomino" is quickly becoming one of my favorite songs of 2011, and it's an amazing video, from director Jimi Patterson:And as a bonus, Mates of State covering Jackson Browne's "These

Eighteen seconds into "Palomino," what started as a toe-tapping song with an airy synthesizer bursts into a chorus of "oohs," and Mates of State's new album rushes off like a child at play."Palomino" is concentrated sweetness, an album and perhaps career highlight for Mates of State, a band that peddles bottled joy and sunshine.Mates of State has always been a band defined by the marriage/
Peep this adorable video of Mates of State 's "Sway". In an Alice in Wonderland-like, love story, our lonely gal falls hard for a wooden elf living in a rabbit hole. It all just works due to the fact that Kori and Jason are also equally adorable. Mates of State - "Sway"
Mates of State is, far and away, one of my favorite bands. They would be a guilty pleasure if the music wasn't arranged so beautifully. It's just sweet, touching pop music at its core. Hard to not get on board with that. They will be coming through Minneapolis 11/18, so be sure to check that out at the Fine Line Music Cafe. Watch their new video for their song Sway

The video for Mates Of State's "Sway" chronicles the budding romance between a woman who falls into an alternate world and a creature she meets there. Budding, because he's a plant! Or something. Then they go to her prom where they're the only two attendees, apparently, and Mates Of State is the house band. This does not speak my experience with proms or alternative dimensions. Check out the video after the jump. Read More...

There's a new whimsical video for "Sway" one of the synth-soaked highlights from Mates of State's terrific new album Mountaintops . In the video a girl falls into a rabbit hole at a high school gym and meets one of the woodland elves from Narnia and Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel play probably the most attractive school janitors ever. So yeah, it's a bit silly but the colorful cinematography and the overwhelming adorable factor of the band makes everything alright. Watch above and download the track below. From September's release of their new album Mountaintops (back in September), "Sway" is everything you've come to expect from Mates of State: upbeat key-driven melodies as husband-wife duo Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel swap excitable verses. Directed by XXXX, the video is a nod to Lewis' Caroll's "Alice in Wonderland"; a girl falls down a
How'd you like to see Mates of State and Generationals at El Rey Theatre in LA on us? That's what we thought.
Mates Of State "Sway" from Barsuk Records on Vimeo . Seems like Mates of State are picking all the right tracks to put on video. When it comes to picking around Mountaintops , I'd say it's been a very undervalued album around my parts. "Sway" shows just what these two are capable when they swing for the fence which I wish we could have heard more of.
The fizzy indie-pop sounds of Mates of State just got set to some C.S. Lewis-style fantasy imagery in the duo's ... Read the full article at http://www.prefixmag.com/media /mates-of-state/sway-video/581 91/
