Stuarto Glasser, host of the All Around the World Music Show, called me up a little after 5pm Friday and asked if I could fill in for him. Thinking it would be a great way to attract a few more listeners I agreed. I headed home and put together a playlist of some of my favorite indie artists from around the world. The first half of the list below aired as the split show: The Indie Music Show from All Around the World. I began with some lovable indie [...]

This show began like any other, but without the transition difficulties. All was smooth. The music, on the other hand, was not. After a long, satisfying week, I was in need of some loud, abrasive rock music. But it wasn't all like that. Due to the cold weather, I mixed in some beach pop, fuzzy dream pop and good old garage rock and pop. Don't forget to hit up the bottom of this post and listen to two tracks from the playlist! "Torn Curtain" by Television [...]

. . . 41st And Home - "Wilderness Eyes" [mp3] "Wilderness Eyes" is a song that from the first note I knew I was in love with. This is the kind of song I'm likely to hit repeat on and just let it play over and over. 41st and Home's sound is obviously Vancouverish. I [...]

Even when you are on vacation the cogs of the city continue to grind. The music may slow down a bit in the hazy shade of the summer months, but it doesn't stop. Seattle radio station to the world KEXP has a summer concert series at the Mural Amphitheatre at the Seattle Center and this Friday's show is an indiepop lover's wet dream. Seapony, Math & Physics Club and Arthur & Yu offshoot Gold Leaves will take the stage this Friday afternoon starting at 6pm. It's free and there's a beer garden. [...]

In my opinion, there's only one festival that would be seriously worth my time this summer, and that's the Indietracks Festival in Derbyshire this July. Unfortunately, I can't quite afford the trip, but I can enjoy this great compilation you can grab too put out by Make Do and Mend Records . It's like the best sampler ever, with 40 jams, some exclusive, from some of the best bands around, including those I've admired on there here pages, like Milky Wimpshake , Crystal Stilts , and [...]
It's June, so it must mean it's time for the obligatory Indietracks compilation album. Sadly this year it won't be released on CD in an attempt to reduce costs, meaning you'll have to burn your own discs for the long drive up. On the other hand, as it's a download only, you can pay whatever you like for it with all proceeds going to the lovely Midland Railway Centre . Every year they put up with us descending on them, so it's nice to be able to give them a little something back. [...]
A little late out of the blocks on this one as BUSINESS has been getting in the way of important things like indiepop, but no matter. The first Indietracks bands have been announced! Who Jeffrey Lewis and The Hidden Cameras have both been announced as headliners. Also added to the bill are Math and Physics Club , Zipper , The Garlands , The Sweet Nothings , The Wendy Darlings , Next Time Passions and Very Truly Yours [...]

2010 was quite a year. It saw graduations, festivals, a move from Athens to Barcelona, the discovery of a new city, a slight, um, slowing down of our blog activity, a World Cup, many flights (17 for me), and a lot of great music. So, without further ado, we present to you: So, how did we compile this rather fantastic list, you ask? Easy, we consulted our trusty last.fm profiles (see the bottom of this page for our individual profiles). We then each chose our top 25 and [...]

Matinée Recordings From: Santa Barbara, California Matinée Recordings, from the very seasonally named Santa Barbara, have got an early Christmas present for all you indie kids out their counting down the days until the big man comes down your chimney. It's a very special Christmas EP featuring exclusive new seasonal songs from five of their most beloved current artists. Seattle's Math and Physics Club arrive with sleighbells on, as [...]
40. Tallest Man On Earth - "Burden of Tomorrow" In 2010 Kristian Matsson as Tallest Man On Earth, an unlikely Swede, so successfully tapped the American folk tree, the most common critical comparison was Bob Dylan. Perhaps a better precedent - and entirely more reasonable - would be Bon Iver, as shared makers of small, acoustic records that chart the depths of human sorrow with mournful vocals

I need to take a break from this list making business. What better way to do that than with some mulled wine. Since you can't download spirits, how about some holiday music? Matinée records down in Southtown (ie. Santa Barbara) have gotten into the festivities. After decorating their coastal live oaks, and hanging their wet suits out to dry they've put together a five song holiday ep containing original Christmas songs by the likes of Math and Physics Club , Northern Portrait , Champagne Riot , Bubblegum [...]

Baffin Island - Darling Please Come Home [Math And Physics Club] | zs

I bought way too many seven inch singles this year. I'm not trying to brag. It's a problem really. The seven inch is like crack to the record geek, a fleeting moment of pop perfection and then it's off to either flip the record or put on another one. This was a daunting task this year and I feel like I left out a lot of stuff, but a top 60 would have been too much and limiting it to 40 makes you have to really decide, what were your favorite singles of the year. Here [...]

You know how much we love Matinee Recordings , one of the best, if not the best, small labels around right now. They're releasing a special gift for their fans, The Matinee Holiday Soiree EP , and its filled with exclusive holiday tracks from five of the bands on their roster, including my personal favorite Math and Physics Club . You also get to hear this new Strawberry Whiplash track, which despite having a holiday theme, doesn't sound too [...]
[ download ] [tweetmeme] There are some who would claim that Seinfeld was the best tv show of the 1990s. Others might say Friends or Twin Peaks or Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Newsradio . They're all a little misguided (well, except possibly for the Newsradio boosters), because the actual best show of the '90s was the cult kids' show, The Adventures of Pete and Pete . For too few glorious years, Pete and Pete explored the gleefully surreal world of the [...]

Allo Darlin', Math & Physics Club, Special Places at Jewelbox Theater, Seattle | 29 October 2010 If there is a more perfect place than the tiny Jewelbox Theater to enjoy the precious pop of the likes of London's Allo Darlin' and Seattle's Math & Physics Club and Perfect Places it likely only exists in my imagination or some storybook. After providing the secret knock to the theater door I entered into a Seattle's small but [...]
I admire those people who can make/fix things on their own, but I take a perverse pleasure in lying on the couch and watching other people be DIY. Math & Physics Club: We're So DIY!
