It's impossible to listen to everything, but that doesn't stop me from trying. That being said it's not uncommon for something truly great to slip through the cracks. I suppose it's just a facet of my personality that makes it so easy for me to become obsessed with certain releases, which is exactly what has happened with the five from last year that I've selected below. They are albums that have become staples in my everyday life, but for whatever reason went unrecognized by me here. Since I feel weird about that I'm taking the opportunity to do so now. [...]
[photo by nyctaper] When I first saw Math the Band , in an opening slot for Anamanaguchi at Music Hall a couple of years ago, I knew I would have to see them and record them again. That 2011 recording was just not high enough quality to post, and it frankly failed to capture the crazy energy of the performance. Friday night at Glasslands , that energy was on display again and thankfully the stars aligned to produce a faithful recording of their fun and crazy set. Math the Band has been around [...]

Did you really think I'd live you hanging on Thanksgiving day? Of course not... If Henry Rollins is working on Thanksgiving, then I am, too! Thursday, November 22nd Henry Rollins: The Long March at Yoshi's - San Francisco It seems that Henry Rollins has retired entirely from music. Which is fine, because he's best when [...]

Here's a newish video from Math the Band that once again demonstrates just why they are so much better than your band. The band will be touring the UK with Wheatus and MC Lars in May and June. It's a bit of an odd combination, but it also kind of makes sense too. Must resist the urge to book them for somewhere down here. Math the Band
![[SXSW] – Math The Band](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4179752_lg.jpg)
by Mila Matveeva Here's a kind of classic SXSW story: I'm on my way to see some band somewhere on 6th Street when I hear this intensely fun electro power-punk pop frenzy coming out of a not-packed-enough bar. Inside, Kevin Steinhauser and Justine Mainville of Math The Band were very quickly turning the few onlookers into shaking torsos. I can't believe these guys have been around since 2003, but at least it shows in their commanding performance. I walked out with a big dumb [...]
As we near SXSW, we find that the quality of touring acts increases dramatically. This week is full of difficult decisions, and even a farewell tour by one of the most underrated and innovative bands of all time. Thursday, March 1st EMA, Reptar at Rickshaw Stop EMA does a dark and brooding brand of [...]

Although it was possibly the oddest line-up Dundee had ever seen; Sundays gig at Dexters has to have been the densest crowd I have ever been a part of, and perhaps one of the best. Once the first act had finished, who were so memorable I have already forgotten how many members were in it, let alone their name, the real music began. The next two acts Math the Band and MC Frontalot define themselves as 'electro-punk spazz' and 'nerdcore hip-hop' respectively, and the confusing titles have nothing on the nature of the acts. [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Video , Exclusive The days when labels like "nerd" and "geek" were equated with a lack of social life and a lot of lonely Saturday nights have given way to a new age where being uncool is the ultimate in cool. That change is precisely what has allowed Math the Band to capture the devotion of a growing legion of fans. After all, not everyone can be [...]
Click here to view the embedded video. I'm really not sure I have words that can come close to equalling the video above, so I'm inclined to let it speak for itself. I've had this song a little while, and thought it was good fun, if a bit nuts. Nothing prepared me for the video though. Quite possibly the best/worst thing I have ever seen. Probably should give it a miss if you're prone to seizures too. Don't Worry is out now on Slanty Shanty Records . The band [...]
