Last week, we posted a remix of Liars' new single " No. 1 Against The Rush " from synthpop pioneer Vince Clarke. And today, we've got a very different reworking of that same track, this time from the playful and conceptually bent IDM duo Matmos, who transform the song into a gliding, skittering pileup of drums and echos. Listen to their version at Soundcloud . The "No. 1 Against The Rush" 12″ single is out 5/28 on Mute . Liars' album WIXIW is out 6/5.
Enjoy their take on 'No 1. Against The Rush' via SoundCloud. Catch Liars on their North American tour. Matmos recently dropped by Daytrotter. Purchase Liars items via Insound. MP3: Liars - Scissor

by BBG DOWNLOAD: Bloody Panda - "Gold" Matmos Remix (MP3) Bloody Panda 2011 The idea of a remix album for a metal band is an odd one, but Bloody Panda is anything but conventional. So when the topic was broached about remixing their 2009 LP Summon , the NYC Doom band put out the call to a litany of great contributors including Matmos , Sanford Parker [...]
Drugs rule. If that sounds like a sentiment your hardcore stoner pals would echo, realize that I'm being literal here; drugs really do rule. According to this Associated Press story, it's official: dr
Baltimore's Matmos returns with two new remixes of a recording of classical string quartets by composer Jefferson Friedman. (He collaborated with the duo on 20062s The Rose Has Teeth In The Mouth Of The Beast). "A Bruit Secret Mix"—which pulsates with a glitchy beat and the slow, smooth sounds of strings—features the esteemed Chiara String Quartet. [...]

This little gem of an EP was released about a month ago on avant-garde maestro Nicolas Jaar 's own Clown and Sunset record label. Unsurprisingly, Montreal native Valentin Stip's glitchy, downtempo electronica does not sound out of place next to the moody left-field house of Jaar's full-length debut Space Is Only Noise. Synth washes, slow soulful keyboard, fractured vocal loops, and a wide assortment of rhythmic clicks weave in amongst each other resulting in 27 minutes and 3 seconds of serenely melancholic techno. The title track "Anytime Will Do" calls to mind the glitch-heavy IDM of Matmos ' lipo-suction sampling track "Lipostudio...And So On". [...]
The label New Amsterdam releases two albums from two different chamber music groups on the same day, showing us just how tricky and rewarding the classical subgenre can be. Chamber music has steadily become slightly more hip these days. This classical subgenre once occupied by greying wigs from Prague is now becoming infiltrated by spring-hatched Julliard grads that spend just as much time shopping at J. Crew and posing for photo shoots as they do practicing their instruments. Not that this is a bad thing -- classical music will always place substance before style -- but it does change [...]

Auto Italia is an old car showroom which has been repurposed as an artists' space. It is, essentially, a big, grey, metal shed. Any character would have to be provided by the artists using it, which was never going to be a problem with Matmos in town. The duo of MC Schmidt and Drew Daniel have long been known for their colourful live performances - I wasn't at the show which featured Schmidt sampling the sound of him slapping Daniel's bare buttocks, although I have seen them using the sounds of dice games, jugs of liquid, plates of crockery and, [...]
Ten years ago Matmos worked with Bjork on her Vespertine and applied their unique approach to production with organic mutations and swirling microbeats. Verspertine subsequently marked a change in Bjork's musical trajectory. That same year the pair, Drew Daniel and M.C. Schmidt, recorded and released A Chance to Cut is a Chance to Cure – an LP based on sample sounds of human surgery: limb cracking, skin tearing and the snips, clicks & squelches of operational procedures - all put to 4/4 techno beats; an interesting listen. As part of 2008's Future Days [...]

Filed under: The Hit List There are more than 60 artists on Matador Records' 'Matador at 21' six-CD retrospective. There are 26 playing the New York indie label's birthday concerts in Las Vegas Oct. 1 through 3. When you've put out nearly a thousand records, not every band can make the cut. Every longtime Matador fan can name at least one artist that they wish was [...]

We live today in a world of ever more stuff – what sometimes seems a deluge of goods and shopping. We tend to assume that this has two results: that we are more superficial, and that we are more materialistic, our relationships to things coming at the expense of our relationships to people. We make such assumptions, we speak in cliches, but we have rarely trid to put these assumptions to the test. - somewhere online . . " Beat Callibration for new Template. No.1 " 01. Hauschka - [...]

My first reaction to the news that Matmos and So Percussion came together went a little something like this: "Huh." They're both known for their unconventional techniques; Drew Daniel and M.C. Schmidt (a.k.a. Matmos) put out a 2001 electronic album entitled A Chance to Cut is a Chance to Cure based around samples of surgical procedures, while NYC percussion quarter So Percussion's performances of pieces by the likes of Steve Reich, Arvo Pärt, and John Cage often include anything hit-able, from traditional drums to aluminum pipes and flower pots. Heck, a press [...]
