This Warm December: Brushfire Holiday's Vol. 1 (compelation) Apparently this one was released in 2008 but I found it on Spotify and immediately bought it on iTunes. I luhhhh it. Christmas by Rogue Wave is one of my favorites along with No Christmas For Me by Zee Avi. The compilation also features many other "chill" [...]
A former pro skateboarder turned power pop songwriter, Matt Costa has a super smooth voice and a talent for writing super catchy songs. This one is no exception. -> Mr. Pitiful by Matt Costa on Grooveshark <!--

Filed under: News , Exclusive , Between the Notes Columbia When Ben Lee was 18, he heard Bob Dylan 's song ' Isis ' playing on a turntable. It was Christmas Day, and the onetime boy rocker was in California, far from his home in Australia. Lurching headlong into the "mysterious, terrifying world of adulthood," the young singer was floored by the mid-period Dylan track -- number 34, if you're counting, [...]
To me, Tom Eddy sounds like Matt Costa mixed with Jeff Buckley. Strange combination, I know, but he has the fun songs similar to Mr. Costa, on the other hand he has the melancholy sound of Buckley, mixing in the hollow guitar. Based in Seattle, Eddy has done work with Beat Connection, who have also [...]

I'll tell you one thing, Big Scary is anything but scary... They're also anything but big. This two piece Australian band, made up of Tom Iansek and Joanna Syme, have been making music together since 2006 (minus a little hiatus in 07). Over the past couple years, the band has come out with three EPs: Autumn, Winter and Spring and then in February of this year, they compiled the EPs and added in "Summer" to complete their project that is called The Big Scary Four Seasons . I really like this song Autumn and the [...]

Wake up kids: today is the Christmas, birthday, and Valentine's Day of the indie music world all rolled into one. Record Store Day is in its fourth year today, and you would be smart to head down to your local independent record store to celebrate the vibrant role they all play in keeping good music alive. There are also a slew of Record Store Day exclusives being offered today, so maybe break that piggy bank to take with you as well. In the spirit of celebrating everything that's right about [...]
Catchy tune off the second EP "The Elasmosaurus" from this CA-based singer/songwriter.

Let's state the obvious first: Rebecca Black's Friday does not represent an acme moment in the annals of popular music. I am even inclined to agree with those who suggest the song is quite awful, especially in its excess of autotuning. It sounds like the theme song for a particularly hyperactive Japanese game show. My remaining days will not be diminished by the absence of Friday on my iPod. But those people with whom I'm inclined to agree are not the target audience, many of whom dislike the song as well. Black's target audience has a crush on [...]

Who's Medi? Since I just found out, let me tell you! He is basically the French equivalent of Matt Costa mixed with Daniel Merriweather and with a dash of Jamiroquai here and there. Expect to hear a mix of soul, 702s inspired funk, and smooth rock. His debut album You Got Me (Moving) comes to us after ten years of music [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive After three years, two albums, and countless months on the road, Everest frontman Russell Pollard still hasn't put his finger on what it is his band does. "It's experiential. It's a journey. It takes you somewhere else," Pollard tells Spinner. Everest's music, he explains, just developed when Pollard and his bandmates, all indie rock veterans who have graced various bands from Sebadoh to Alaska!, convened [...]

It would be so easy to write off Matt Costa as just another guy with a guitar making mediocre acoustic rock. His case isn't helped by the fact that he's signed to Brushfire Records, Jack Johnson's label and home to the sleepy, beach-guitar boys club. Costa's recordings can come off a little bit wishy-washy at times, but at the heart of his music is man with serious talent and a lot of heart. This was made very evident at his recent show with Threes and Nines at the Doug Fir Lounge . [...]
